$81,000 1st year

$103,000 2nd year

$110,700 3rd year (and only goes UP from there; compare that to the great "GMR pay bump")

Could make captain going into the 4th year (maybe sooner if you're a stud)... Captain starting pay year one: $181,800 then shoots to the stars there.  And that's possible in JUST FOUR YEARS after starting a whole new career!?!?!?!

Remember, those are just the minimum pay.  You do one extra flight and you make WAY more pay than any overtime bennies with AMC/GMR... for real; airlines offer up to 300% pay for some extra flights.  Compare that to the amazing 1.5 pay at most HAA.

You also make that same pay sitting on reserve (and flying maybe only 30% of what you do in a normal month; and you can even "bid" for a reserve schedule if you like sitting around).

Got it: schedule isn't great the first year, but MANY guys find by the 2nd year they can bid schedules that fit their family's lifestyle.  By year 3 or 4 it's possible to start flying the schedule and trips you REALLY like.

For that kind of pay increase, not deal with medcrew, not fly single engine, be treated like a professional... WORTH IT.  Your family may actually be happier with your quality of life change.

I do remember seeing the former airline pilots come back to rotory wing back in the 2000's after the furloughs (regional pilots only since they were paid what flight attendants make nowadays)... THOSE DAYS ARE OVER.  With the pay and quality of life increase given the current market for the next 5-15 years you'd be nuts to pass this up.

Make the jump!!!

See for yourself:  https://www.facebook.com/FrontierAirlinesPilotRecruitment/photos/pcb.5207830582628123/5207826335961881/

Oh, also, they pay 15% direct to your 401K (with no match required).  All the majors actually pay more than that.

Flying pretty much brand new aircraft (vs 20 year old single engines with no autopilot or standardized cockpits).

Yup; you can be home every night making crap pay and not afford to do anything or retire at a reasonable age... go ahead and leave that for the military retirees.  They can have that crap.

The whole "the schedule isn't worth it" isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be... by year 3 you'll have long forgotten about it.  Just know, for 3 years you'll have to suck it up but you won't be having to work for the next 20-30 years like the HAA guys.

THINK ABOUT THE LONG GAME!!!

He's just excited enough about his career choices to share in the wealth with other rotor heads who may still be considering the switch.  Having said that, I've never seen a RW guy post great things on a FW forum encouraging pilots there to switch to the RW side.
