Do you see any PtR pilots? Plane to rotor?

I have been flying for 30 years and never worked with an airline guy who came "back" to helicopters.

Has anyone here worked with a former airline pilot?

Ever wonder why?

Rotary and Corporate. Even when it's not a dual rated position.

I worked with a couple that had reached the old 60 retirement age and just wanted to fly something fun.

The older you get in the industry, the harder it is to change. Young guys do ok, but I've seen a handful change their minds and come back. Mostly, guys with pensions that don't aspire to spend all day on a taxiway.

I did airlines back in 2009, hated the schedule, sitting reserve, and the pay.  Just wasn't for me at that time. But I'm also still in a dual rated position, but get more RW time than FW.

The money I'm seeing now... I probably would've been able to put up with it a little more.  But still don't think I'd like it.

know many people...i have known at least a dozen or so guys in my company that left flying Rotor to the airlines and came back to rotor....they all said the same thing...the sched. was horrible, pay wasn't that great and time away from home...

The sched is the biggest deterrent.  I still get offers to go back, really good offers, but I'm home almost every night now and don't have to get up at 0300 to get to the airport, or get to the hotel at 0200 after delays upon delays.. then only to spend a day on each side to get home.

I know! I wish I would've had the apptitude to pull it off.  Sometime you just have to recognize that everyone else is better than you and go back to helicopters.

Retired United Captain who wanted a job in his home town.  Great attitude, worked out well.  Only thing I noticed was he tended not to be prepared for what adverse environmental conditions precautionary landings might bring about, plus he never really got the rest he needed to deal with single pilot operations.  But, all is well that ended well.

Most airplane to rotor conversions wind up going back to airplane work because those operations tend to be far better supported in real time; such as two pilots, better ground support, etc.

But, far more fun 🤩 in helicopters doing VFR/IFR than staring at the same old IFR airplane instrument panel runway to runway.

Money?  For helicopters corporate work is best you in my experience, for airplanes the airlines (you'll be able to buy a 🚁!).

of very accurate input reference airplane work.  Indicates the importance of doing diligence before hopping in to a different saddle because you, and your family, have to live with the consequences and sometimes it just doesn't work, with adjustments that may be very difficult.

Really?  You actually doing any flying?

I flew for a regional airline before coming back to helicopters.  I have worked with five other people who flew for airlines before coming back to helicopters.  Three later returned to airlines
