Msg ID: 2737097 123.025 helicopter air to air +6/-1
Author:What Freq?
7/28/2022 3:00:20 PM

It seems alot of hospitals use a frequency other than 123.025 for inbound/outbound traffic to their helipads. With only two radios I can be up approach/tower and one other frequency. While taking off from a hospital I had a near miss with another helicopter transitioning the area on 123.025. I was up tower and 123.05 which was the helipd freq and expected for outbound helicopters as another helicopter was inboud to the same pad. I think it would be smart for all helicopters in one area to use the same frequency?

And because of that, they want THEIR aircraft up their Unicom instead of 123.025 (the universal helicopter air to air) making them awkward and cumbersome.  They shouldn't be using their Unicom as a flight following frequenc or boosting their Unicom freq's wattage to interfere with unicoms elsewhere, but they do.  And, when you make traffic advisory calls, they shouldn't be answering as if they are a flippin control tower ("Air jam 1, no traffic other traffic inbound, you cleared to land")

Stop answering me when I make an advisory call!

the other helicopter was transitioning and was probably monitoring 123.02. you should have been also after you took off. don't overthink it.

123.025 for air to air. 123.05 is common for pilot controlled helipad lighting, so click and switch back.

The problem around my base is we have a lot of ag aircraft and they LOVE to use 123.025 as their coordinating with the fuel/loading truck. It get's really ridiclous sometimes. We normally have to ask them to move to an appropreate A2G freq and they usually respond with some sort of a $$ hole comment about how they own the air and they are doing production work blah blah... "Hospital traffic, EMS1 inbound from the South 10min Eta... EMS1, HELI25, we are also 10mins out to the West, HEY STEVE! I'VE GOT 1/2 LOAD LEFT THEN I'LL COME BACK FOR MY BORRITO..... Okay Heli25 I'm going... OKAY GARRETT, I'VE GOT YOUR BORRITO, HOW'S THAT FIELD COMING? YOU PLANNING ON GOING TO THE JOHNSON PLACE NEXT? YEAH STEVE! I'LL MOVE THE THE JOHNSON PLACE, I'VE GOT A MASSIVE WEDGIE GOING ON HERE, I HATE THIS FIELD, IT'S GOT THIS TREE IN THE MIDDLE THAT REALLY THROWS MY.....

You get the picture.

just irritating to you. I can't imagine how that could possibly be a problem in what sounds like a rural area. they are talking on the appropriate frequency. just not being professional about it. yawn, quit whining.

That's the problem, we don't know where they are. And by them interfering on a A2A frequency we can not coordinate with the other inbound or outbound aircraft because Steve needs his lunch. It is a problem.
