Because they can find work here. Don't think they are the ones burning the flag, those are our own homegrown scvm. 

I ask myself, are immigration metrics a sufficient signal to call ourselves the best? Hard to answer. 

Illegal? Legal immigration might be a hard metric to determine greatness. But illegal immigration, no. Illegal immigration is a great measure of greatness. People from all over the world are risking all to steal their way into America. To a lesser extent it also happens to a few other great countries, like Great Britain, and maybe France.

Illegal immigration changes in number everytime there is a swing in office from right to left and vice versa. It's a poor metric. The greatest countries have immigration quotas that are enforced. Also, Germany is number two to us in immigration figures, fyi. 

How much illegal immigration there is in or out of some party being in office. Scandinavian countries are allowing no immigration at all. Some would say they are the best. I wouldn't.

all countries.  After Vietnam I left for over 10 years.  Wasn't a happy camper, wanted to see how things worked outside the US.  Our big problem is no term limits in Congress and the extent to which they lose touch with all but doing their jobs for the people they represent, which is their home district/s AND the country as a whole.

We went to the moon 53 years ago.  Today, they limit you to one package of toilet paper at Costco.  We have people in this country who don't know if they are a girl or a boy or something in between.  Worse, we spend all of our time catering to perverts and no time building on what our parents left for us./

That was great Hollywood by JD but I could take that argument apart piece by piece.  The USA is the greatest country in the world and most of the metrics that we fail at are at the cost of keeping the rest of the world at (relative) peace and the choices made by those who confuse entertainment with reality.
