Why is the company against a splitt shift, 4days/3nights and 7 off? 7 straight days can be rough in the summer at a busy base.

One has to 4 nights 3 days. There is going to be a gap when going from days to nights, or nights to days.

4/3 or 3/4 on equals 6 off.

I would bet my bottom dollar that the long stretch of night has more accidents involved than 4/3 3/4.

Plus with the 24 hours off in the middle you can go home in the middle of a shift to see family which you can't do with a 7/7.

It's also harder to find coverage for base on a 7/7 because nobody wants to add that many extra night shifts.

Facts don't care about your feelings.

I get in a good sleep pattern when I'm on 7 nights. It's a way better schedule than when I was 4/3 as I ultimately feel more awake and alert on the 7 nights because I can prepare for them and my body adapts better vs the shock of changing to nights midway of the hitch. I won't do 4/3-3/4 again.

Food for thought 7/7 schedule if changing on a Thursday every other weekend is off.

Some dont like the 7 nights they didnt seem to reverse out.

Scheduled holiday shifts change out over a 5 year cycle.

4 days/3 nights,  started on Monday seemed like never a full weekend off. The change to nights seemed harder (personal opinion)

3 Days/4 Night shift started on Friday, my opposites loved this schedule, every other weekend off and likely few holidays.

Holidays shifts dont change year to year.  The Senior guy (AMC Union) was scheduled numerous holidays and every christmas shift, he put in for vacation per the contract and awarded the time off. Pi$$ed off the other 3 pilots. Was not an issue on the previous 7/7 schedule everyone had a holiday off.

The base I worked the pilots agreed if you were scheduled both Tday and Xmas the others would exchange a shift so no one worked both holidays.

4 days and 3 night didn't work for me, 0it was really a 8/6). Tired all the time. Glad we now have 7/7. I feel much safer.

Can someone explain to me how a 4/3 or 3/4 is actually 8/6? I've heard that argument more than a couple times and it doesn't make sense...

I am on a 3/4 and love it! I have 3 days during the week Tuesday - Thursday, 24 hours off when transition to nights, then 4 nights Friday - Monday. Then have 7 off. If anything with the 24 hours off I actually get one extra day off a hitch. Plus I'm still at home during the day every single weekend. Yeah, ocassionally you get beat up on the night shifts and need a little more sleep during the following day, but I still get most of the afternoon at home. 7 nights in a row? No freaking thank you. 7 Days in a row, getting your butt kicked every single day? Nope. I'll take the 24 hours off in between any day of the year.

I'm with you. I work at a base where I'm home every night and I love my 4/3. We are a busy base that does the majority of our flyin at night, so 7 straight nights can be pretty rough,  the 24 hrs off midweek is always a nice little break And the whole claim of 8/6 is nonsense. You are bumping your last couple shifts by 12 hrs so I guess technically you could say you are working 7.5 with 6.5 off but the reality is if I finish up on wed evening or thursday morning it really doesnt matter, I end on night shift and dont really care if I'm sleeping at home or at work for that last night. The pros of the 4/3 3/4 definitely outweigh the cons.

If the flight volume stays up at your base, you may get the longevity you are looking for.

Ours has been here for 20 some odd years with range of 30-50 flights a month. That wont change any time soon, only concern is vendor change due to being hostpital based.
