helicopters and turboprop airplanes use a turbine engine to drive a gearbox.  Thrust would be meaningless in that application.

So it would be more accurate to call it mulepower. If a helicopter engine was rated at 2,500 SHP, what SMP would that equal?

is horsepower; that value delivered to the drive shaft to perform functional work is shaft horsepower.  Two different things, obviously.  Engines may be capable of delivering a lot of HP but that which is allowed to be used is not usually lower.

Torque?  Measure of work being done, effective transfer of potential and kinetic energy to a positive outcome - yes, both.
