Company check pilots conduct Part 135 checks after an observation ride with the FAA. However, not all Part 135 operators have a check pilot nor is it required to have one.

A check pilot when conducting a check does so as a representative of the FAA during the check. If a company doesn't have a check pilot then the FAA has to provide inspector to do the check. First the request goes through your local FSDO then if no one there is qualified it goes into a National Resource pool to find one that is. This takes forever!

Happened to me.  At first I was pretty angered, but as it turned out, it was a good ride.  The FAA inspector wanted some stick time in a 109, and he got it.

The ride was with the regional inspector for helicopter operations, can't recall his name, I'm sure someone here can come up with it.  What's the big deal?  Never had a ride with the FAA before?  They always like a little stick time in newer machines, and it always helps with the ride, if you give them the impression that you know the machine.

Wait did you really not know that faa provides 135 checks? Kinda odd to be a jerk about something that you obviously are ignorant about.
