What is it with the Forest Service in NM ? A few years ago they almost destroyed Los Alamos with a control burn that got out of control . Now history repeats itself again with the Las Vegas fire. Who are these dodos ? |

The fire scam is this. Any fire, natural or ‘prescribed’ burn WILL burn until there is no money left. Typically a helicopter fire fighting day starts around 7:00am. Rarely will the machines work before noon. We fire pilots are forced to take stupid fire behavior classes which teach us that high humidity, calm wind and morning cool air are the best conditions for extinguishment yet we NEVER fly in the mornings. When we do get a line established the night idiots back burn and the whole thing starts again the next day. It’s all about how much overtime can fire people make in a season and the towns, forests and lives lost are meaningless. |

Nothing better than having someone conduct a "prescribed burn" with conditions marginal and have it escape. Even worse is two years later another in a similar area being conducted and it escapes as well. Makes it difficult to convince the residents of how beneficial "prescribed burns" are. If there was a good outcome, no structures were lost on the second one. Having escaped and gone into suppression mode, tactics seem to go to the wayside. If you are flying, you see a plethora of units watching "the show" or radio conversation fixated on meals. Instead of improving lines overnight, having a unit or two "patrol" the perimeter. The 0800 brief means getting personnel to the lines around 1000 only to get ready for lunch. Can't be late for lunch so leave leave lines around 1030. The list goes on. |
