I hate to keep disparaging Robinsons because I know that's pretty much all you young kids have to train in but something is wrong.  Any helicopter of this type that requires a "faux type rating" to fly and has as many accidents as it has should should have its Type Certificate re-evaluated and some changes made.  Granted there were not as many of us but if we had crashed and killed or hurt as many people in B-47s, Hillers, early 206s  and 500's the industry would have died.  As pilots , I'm not saying we were better.  What I am saying is we didn't have as many accidents because our equipment, even though some of it was junk, was stronger and better built.

You really should check your facts before making such statements.  Back in the day, the Bell 47 had one of the worst accident histories in the industry (and was operated mostly by former Korean and Viet Nam era helicopter pilots).  The majority of accidents were actually caused by mechanical failures (primarily engine related).  The only helicopter that came close to matching the Robinson was the Enstrom in that they were purchased by a new generation of private owners (low time pilots).  The Enstrom was plagued by accidents in its early history (70's and 80's) and eventually lost the market share to Robinson.  I am surprised that the accident rate in Robinson helicopters isn't substantially higher, considering the number of them operating worldwide.

"Robinson helicopter" is by itself, now considered an official cause of an accident. Saves a lot of time.
