When Military pilots were taking these jobs early on, it was a retirement gig and not a career.  There for they accepted the lower pay due to having a retirement.

Then this became more of a career, which has done a few things.

1. Military pilots looking a an easy job has gone by the wayside.  That means you will have to wash an aircraft, pick up OT, study for a check ride etc.  It wont be filled with buddies that are going to pass you along.  It's more professional flying, no one cares how much combat time you have because it is no where near as hard as Vietnam, and your modern day Blackhawk and Apache do a lot for you.  Yes it was designed that way to help prevent pilot error and in war time allow for a curtain level of mistakes.  I.E- pull collective to armpit to save something-OK. Computer helps with pedals, power etc.

2. Civilian pilots coming up in the ranks have a different avenue than Off Shore and Utility.  But they need to get more experience than fly one or two season of tours.  That's not experience, or I should say, not good experience.  Go fly Off Shore, Utility, ENG, etc. Then come to HAA where skills come to die.  No one cares that an R22 is tough to hover.... No one cares how much you spent to get here. Flying tours on a hot day is not flying combat.

If we could bring the professionalism way up in this industry, from both sides, we might save it from being replaced by more automation.

Military guys, know your real value. Ask for good pay, vacation, etc. Know that your not kicking civilian guy in their nuts with low pay because I got mine.

It's amazing how much we are the same vs different.

Who cares if your military or civilian. Can you fly.. Can you auto...Can you do whats required of you. Then do a good job, fly safe, and lets make this a better place.

Noticed the job post on LinkedIn. What is Air Evac paying towards 401k? PTO? Any supplemental pay like profit sharing or safety bonus? And do 'strike team' pilots commute during the 14 day hitch, or on your off time?

401k half of what you contribute up to 8%. Commute on time off so 0 day and 15 day, travel including airfare , car rental mileage and parking paid for. Daily per diem for full 16 days is 45 a day I believe so an extra 720 per hitch.

So it's like being a utility pilot only with lower pay, lower per diem and med crews? Hard pass
