struck me about a Robinson. The gear looks like its made out of pvc and glued together. Just makes you wonder what else they skimped on. I have managed a 20 year career with a .9 in a 22. I would not say it's an exaggeration that hundreds of people would be alive if they chose to fly in a real helicopter. It's like our Walmart mentality manifested itself to a helicopter manufacturer.

And people bought Pinto's and Vega's because the were thrown together and they were cheaper than Fairlanes and Chevelles.

I think it's the cheesy cyclic that turns me off.  More Robys have been sold in the last twenty years than any other helicopter.  I flew for a lot of years, 40+ rotory, and was able to avoid them.  I know a lot of people have lots of time in them without accidents but they still don't look safe.

I am not a big Robinson fan but because of my job I have attended the R-44 and R-66 Pilot Safety Course in Torrance! Super course for the money and includes an hour of flight time in the course aircraft with a Factory Pilot! Also included with the course is a Factory tour! It really is impressive and the quality is top notch! Don't remember the per centage but most of the aircraft is manufactured there exccept for the engine! In my opinion most of the Robinson accidents are caused by low time Pilots that aren't proficient with some of the quirks associated with Robinson aircraft!

The robinson product while good for what it is has absolutely zero margin for error.  Combine that lack of forgiveness along with it being the most popular training helicopter especially in the USA where you have 200hr pilots teaching 5 hour pilots its just simple math that accidents will occur.  They tend to be the most popular aircraft for private ownership, typically lower hour non commercial pilots who do not do this for a living and put themselves in bad positions due to their lack of experience.  That same lack of money which ended up with them selecting a R44 for a personel helicopter vs a 407/AS350 etc shows up with lack of proper maintenance.  Then just the shear number of these things out there combined with everything above and zero margin for error and lack of forgiveness you see what everyone has seen for 40 plus year.

I'm with the poster above.That is a cheesy looking cyclic.It looks like it would be difficult for an instructor to get to the cyclic fast enough to prevent an accident.

A lot of exclamation points for someone who is not a fan.  Never flown one, but as the saying goes... "you don't have to be a chicken to smell a rotten egg".

an R22 do cattle rustling in Australia on utube is certainly the scariest I've seen a teetering system flown.

What company is this ? Executive helicopters is a joke I hope it was them. Bass is a over confident cop. Stay in yer lane bud
