Dead Horse: Duty Time +11/-3

Okay, Max duty time is 14 hours. Can you exceed 14 hours? Some would say, heck yeah you can. You can work 20 hours as long as you get 10 hours of rest afterwards. Some would say, heck no.
You can exceed 8 or 10 hrs of flight time (not pre-planned to do so) as long as you don't exceed a 14 hr duty day. Correct? As long as you get the prescibed rest afterwards (more than 8 hrs flight time but less than 30 over 8 hrs of flight time, more than 30 mins but less than 60, & more than 60 mins......).
Then how can you exceed a 14 hr duty day? Where is it written?
Example: You flew 5.5 hrs and are approaching a 14 hr duty day within 15 mins. You are a few hundred miles from the home base. You call company ops and they dispatched the night pilot in the company van who is driving to your location. The night pilot will get the van to you in about 2-3 hrs for which you will drive the van back to base and the night pilot who is on duty will fly the helicopter back. So you drive the van back and have been on duty for 19 hours when you reach the base. The night pilot was brought in an hour early in order to get on the road to bring the van to you. You wait 2 hrs past your 14 hrs and another 3 hrs to drive back to the base. Now you must be back on duty after 10 hrs of rest. WT F?
After a 19 hour day and only 10 hrs of rest? I wouldn't be able to decouple after 19 hrs on duty of flying, refueling, coordinating, waiting, and driving a company van with red swollen eyes.

you were no longer on "Part 135" Duty the moment the van was sent to you... but you are not on your rest period... so yes while driving the van "You" can say your on duty but the FAA does not... Yes you are fatigued and will need to start your "10 hour" rest period when you get back to your crib.
Part 135 is for flying not driving.... |

You are on part 135 duty for duty purposes. You cannot accept any part 135 flying assignment while still on part 135 duty, past a 14 hour duty day. |

If you are driving a van for the benefit of the company and they expect you to operate it as part of your employmeant you are on duty. If you want to get really strict about it, if you are on your 10 hour rest period and get a work call your rest has Ben interupted and must start again. |

of junk vehicles is a safety sensitive task is above and beyond what anyone shouid be doing. You keep me up for 18-20 hours at my inconvenience and putting me in a forced sleep deprivation mission, you are putting my life at risk. Your company operations isn't combat. Therefore, at a minimum I should receive 18-20 hours off equal to time on duty. Or, the government needs to get involved to stop this! |

FAA matter. If any 135 flight assignment is undertaken while still performing company assigned duties, the matter definitely will be an FAA concern. That is why all rest periods must be free from all restraint. |

Yep, you certainly can drive the van back home on duty time. As long as you don't fly until you get hours of rest. My company would pay for a hotel if I wanted and drive back after 10 hours of rest.
What would you like. to see happen? |

Attitude goes to -10,000%, mental confusion goes up to 500%, risk assessment for driving the next 2 to 3 hours goes off the scale (what, no risk assessment for this?), potential for a "go F' yourself" verbal remarks to anyone goes up by a minimum of a number matching my salary of 72,000%, the risk of me quiting without notice related to not burning a bridge but nuking it with a hypersonic missle goes up by about 5,000,000%. |
