Science evolves. Their was once "scientific" evidence supporting the theory that the female thought process was inferior and less organized than that of their male counterparts. Medical science once accepted that you could assist in healing by bloodletting. Things change as science progresses.

In any case, water on Mars was a theory, not accepted scientific fact.

Scientist study science and therefore know a great deal bout whatever phase of science they study. Science is not static, it's falsifiable and therefore can be changed as knowledge is acquired.

For the last 3 years we have had to listen to you that we were " follwing the science ". But none of that turned out to be true. Mask wearing wasn't science. experimental gene therapy wasn't science, social distancing wasn't science, and so called vax passports weren't science. Nothing we were told turned out to be science. It was all lies. Not one apology for all the lies either, from the guys who said we were following the science.
