The Union at AMC is doing a huge disservice to its people. We have been held back by not having all info brought out in transparency of what the union is going after for the pilots.
The best people we have tell people to do their job for them, by getting pay sheets from other companies and only shooting barely above those pay schools.
Yah, really great |

A couple cliches that are very, very true:
A company gets the union has to work very hard to get a union on the property.
The members of the union get the union they deserve. You want different? Make it different.
The biggest G/D problem I had after actively pursuing the organizing at two different companies was that once the contract was in place, MOST (ALL?) the pilots relaxed and let management continue with their old, accustomed practices. The membership had been bought off CHEAP. That is, until their individual toes were stepped on, then they called the steward (me) to intervene.
Did they ever speak out, protest management violating the contract with another member? No, that was my job to bring the union on board. I did what I had to do in every instance, but- those lazy mfers made me the guy who terminated/retained an employee instead of their defending, supporting a fellow member. Even in cases at their bases- crickets.
The executive body knew this was happening and followed the herd and why not? They weren't being paid enough to put time and the clock for members and when the company retaliated for working for members, nobody said boo. |

"Its somwhere between mediocre and underwhelming."
What are you doing about that? How are you improving work conditions, benefits? Paying your dues dues not count, everybody does that, excluding your Beck Rights exclusion.
Nothing, huh? Except bitching and moaning a/k/a whining, making somebody else represent you.
Your employer probably has legal staff, employment law on staff or at beck and call. Do you? Representation evens that out somewhat.
Before my I left my previous previous employer, they fired a guy with 5 years of productive experience because he had red hair. Or because he was named Bob and we had 3 other Bobs at the base. Or he wasn't related to anybody in management. I worked with Bob his whole career at that base, he never shirked or caused issues with the customer.
He did not, would not fly an aircraft with an existing discrepancy, which the maintenance manager found issue with. Think about that for a moment- you get in your aircraft to discover X, Y or Z is inop and you take the issue to maintenance. They tell you it's been like that for a while, the other pilots flew it, why can't you? Of course you write it up, insist that it be corrected, CNDed or deferred- right? But Bob didn't play along... |

The company is short pilots, laws of supply and demand will have more influence in my pay than the Union will!
So, I'll likely get the same payraise anyway, minus the 1% the Union extorts! |

You've got to be kidding!
No.
Management gets the union they worked hard to get. Remember-The majority of the pilots has to approve representation in negotiation and then approve the purposed contract. The contract negotiations have to be universal to all pilots, so all pilots have to pay for that. Beck Rights are separate.
You don't have to keep the raises negotiated for all pilots if you have true moral objections to the process. But- I've never seen an anti-union pilot refuse the results of representation, increased pay and benefits, a binding job description. N-E-V-E-R! ever! ever! Sometimes, once the contract is in place the pilots will vote to remove the union- that, too is their right.
In actual fact, most of the times the individual union representation I provided was requested, it was to previously anti-union pilots. My guess- they weren't really 'team players' until their toes got directly stepped on. You'll wear a target once you step in for another pilot, but you usually earn some respect from management if you do it right- at least in my experience.
Remember- the company has to benefit in the contract negotiation, too. |

Instead, the union stole his leverage to use it where they wanted, which is always first about saving their mandatory union dues clause. You don't let him negotiate his own deal. So, nonsense that "he doesn't refuese the raises negotiated for all pilots, ever" line! Utter nonsense! |
