So I fly with a helmet, 5500 hours helicopter and I might as well have been wearing a headset. So far so good, will continue to wear that helmet of course even when it 100deg F out. Got me thinking about the airbag jacket I wear when I ride my motorcycle. Would you wear a flight suit with airbag built in if it was an option?

Would I wear an airbag in the pilot seat? Not no but 'hell no!' Couple reasons but first and foremost it would have absoutely no benefit to a helo pilot in a helo crash.

Inflateable objects inside an aircraft seems to hinder escape routes.  Especially when your egress is while in water.

shouldn't hinder escape if it doesn't in cars. I have heard from first responders that have been to fatal helicopter crashes and said the occupants were like jello from all their broken bones.

Sure, they deflate but they don't disappear. You wanna rassle with the slack air bags in egressing?

Cars are designed with different priorities and specs. Pilots are meat in the seat, they're not buying what they're flying in most cases.

"... been to fatal helicopter crashes and said the occupants were like jello from all their broken bones."  Never seen that, I think somebody's pulling your leg. Massive trauma, yeah. Head and neck trauma usually kill the occupants. Seen partial decapitations, etc. The main rotor's your worst enemy in a crash.

I'm not arguing for airbags. I believe in energy absorbing seats and good 4-point inertial harnesses

ur happy at 100F in a sweat sack.  The older u get the tougher a helmet and nomex get during summer.  Personally I consider sweating like crazy a dehydration safety problem but the industry and CAAMTS could care less.  Pretty dumb stuff.  Typical of the industry.
