why i quit flying.
look, the job is to fly patients. when the call comes in, the only time you're supposed to be looking at is if you can get the patient to the receiving within a time that gives you 10 hours off in the preceding 24.
for you jh yokels, that usually means, within 14 hours of signing in for duty.
now if that means you have to drive back and work some overtime (for which you get paid...), oh boo f-ing hoo.
you are a candy-*ss and you should work at the perfume counter at the estee lauder store. flying ain't your bag. |

i wouldn't join that crowd of clueless clowns. no, i quit. biggest reason: whiners like you.
and nobody thinks fatigue isn't a thing. stop being such a passive aggressive fem wannabee whiner. grow up.
if you are too tired to do the job, speak up and say so. be a man. you will get time off. are you afraid of what somebody might think? are you afraid of retaliation? what a p*ssy. man up. grow up.
on the other hand, if working 16 hours and then getting 10 hours off makes you too tired to do your job, you need to make some major lifestyle changes. stop boozing, stop smoking, lose some of that lard off of your *ss, get out of the lazy boy and spend a couple hours walking every day, get a strong mental attitude. in a couple of months you'll be a new man, well, a man, anyway.
you are not cut out for aviation. quit and give the seat to somebody who will act like a man. |

Have shown that drowsy driving makes drivers more accident prone than dui. The same would apply to flying. Falling asleep at the wheel is dangerous. Falling asleep at the yoke is even more so. |

That you mention it, I see your point. The quitter went from pilot to management, and now is quitting management. He definitely thinks all pilots should be male, and that all those males should be his definition of men. Astute observation on your part. |

The question still is: is it common.
If you don't do this for a living, you don't have to bother with responding because that would not be terribly helpful and it even gets some delicate flowers upset. |

No, just stay at home. Or Turn the flight down, "one to say no". Some companies want you to get a hotel room if the drive back to base takes too long. All-in-all, don't do anything that you do not want to do. Flying around with your lip pooched out is distracting and dangerous. |

Forced overtime? Maybe. if it's in their GOM, SOP, job description and you accepted the offer and went through training....then thats on you. The expectation was laid out.
My company, if the flight can be planned to have patient at receiving and you can be back pilot only by 15th hour, then accept the flight. Other fatigue considerations are included.

What are they doing after 14? Returning to base pilot only under Part 91. Pilot swap or crew returns by ground. Like I said the guidance has other fatigue considerations in it. It's well documented. Not rocket science. |

mixing tinker-toy company garbage with real Federal rules. Nothing trumps, so to speak, the Fed requirements. If any of that company baloney is in writing submit it to FAA DC Legal, anonymously.

"Does your company require you to take a flight if it means going over your 14 knowing you will time out before returning to base. We don't have much say in the matter. Forced overtime?"
That issue is moot. I can turn down any flight request.
Or- I can drop the med crew at receiving hospital and leg it back to base for relief within 14 hour duty.
Or leave your car keys at the base, relief pilot drives your car orrelief pilots' POV to receiving hospital to relieve you.
You have at least 2 hours to coordinate the relief process. Often the aircraft, crew were back at base before you got there.
Your duty period is to respond to all dispatch requests you can safely and legally accept. Sometimes the sending facility loses control and sometimes the patient goes suddem;y downhill.
It gets a little sticky when you can 'accept dispatch reasonably expecting to complete it within duty time limits' and the patient is FUBAR, eleventy-eight drips and vented, circling the drain, requiring extensive preparation. I've waited 8 hours before the crew loaded the patient before the medical crew had stabilized the patient. Had one die onboard three times, twice landing at facilities en route for assistance.
It is what it is right then and there, deal with it, let the medical team do the medical thing and you just fly. |

you are far from saying that to anyone's face. One thing for sure about online behavior is many just have no filters when it comes to anonymous behavior, which gives that individual something to work from, towards being a better online personal representative.
Yeah, long winded, don't like it, your problem.
Olderndirt put some effort in to providing quite a bit to work with, if you can't understand the English language ur free to work at that too.
The short reply would be:
