I agree about the pusher prop.  I never would have imagined Blackhawk guys could jack up stabilators since they're so high off the ground and yet (especially compared to the Apache's low stabilator) and yet....

Also, where's the chin bubble?  Doesn't seem smart for a tactical helicopter to not have one.

Besided the pusher prop getting jacked up in a sloped LZ, the two vertical fins have way more chance of getting jacked up.  WAY more chance (and Blackhawks annually have jacked up stabiliator damage from LZ's... which is about as mind-boggling as the amount of times Blackhawks pilots like to ground taxi the main rotors into T-walls, building, and other aircraft). 

Also, the pilots have some pretty bad@ss doors on the Defiant, but the forward visibility s#cks much like current Blackhawks.  Look at pics of the S-69 ABC... they figured out back then how to have better forward visibility!  And today's modern screens DO NOT suffer from so much glare to need such huge glareshields.


Notice how the greenhouses are shortened too.  That will suck trying to see around in a tight turn.  I use my greenhouse a lot... would s#ck to not have one. 


And, again, chin-bubble anyone?  Even C-130's have chin bubbles!!!

Also, the aircraft seems a bit larger than a Blackhawk and it can only carry 12 troops compared to the current 11???  That makes no sense.  Especially as the Blackhawk currently has a ton of wasted space between and in front of the crewchiefs.  They should have thought that through.  Either move up the crewchiefs or allow seats to be right behind the pilots.

All good notes that even I can follow. You have to wonder if when making these design decisions they actually talk to, or more importantly listen to the guys and gals actually flying the missions.

Better image to show the poor visibility... just like the current Blackhawk. 

Never been in a worse visibility helicopter (minus the Apache's forward and down visibility but at least they have the HDU to overcome that). 

The Bell 407GX EMS version is pretty bad since the MFD pushes out the dash too far and the passenger wall/litter takes up visibility.  Would imagine the S-76 and AW139 are pretty bad too as they seem very similar to the Blackhawk.  

The S-92 looks like they got visibility right for the pilots, though, so there is hope for Sikorsky.  Maybe their final version will be better after all.  Right... their XPs are all old dudes who are probably stuck in their old Army ways.

It's sad how long it takes our industry to advance designs and technology... the Defiant X is just a build off of 1970's proven technology (which the Russians took off and ran with):

The S-69 program started in 1973 (when a Huey could fly a whopping 120kts max, straight and level) and by 1978 the last test model (deemed the XH-59 by the military) could fly a sustained 278kts. 

And we get all excited now about a helicopter that can fly over 200 knots.  Old news.
