Great article to make you think: https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/mark-shrime-mercy-ships-understanding-purpose

For the young guys - consider serving your country if you can (even for one short stint or just in the Reserves or National Guard).

Helicopter LOVERS - don't compromise and stick with doing it but consider getting FW training in as a backup and do it early; give yourself options.

Aviation lovers - don't get stuck in a rut; jump at a random opportunity; consider other horizons to build toward, try another field just for the experience.

Instrument haters - don't go to the airlines; but just know you'll eventually get enough hours to satisfy that "flying itch" where being on the controls all the time won't matter and watching the clouds go by and manage a few buttons and radios won't seem as boring... especially if you can be making six figures consistently before your 40's..

For the "yeah, aviation's alright" crowd: invest in your hobby/passion and don't let aviation keep you boxed in just because it's the path that was worn down the deepest early in your career.  You may be happier pursuing the non-aviation thing or interest in your life.

For the close to retirment folks: RETIRE... you're probably making everyone else miserable with your grumpiness.  There's a whole new you out there that you don't realize is there because of the stress or frustrations you're dealing with as aviation has evolved over the years.

Pursue your passions, map out what takes you to your goals, step out in faith, and don't look back.

Advice. I gave you a thumbs up. You already had a thumbs down, and it was for no good reason. Maybe that loser hates good advice?

You're the Debbie Downer. Not even close to a nice try at justifying your malice.

Well, I've never heard a helicopter pilot retiree say "man, I wish I'd have stayed around a little longer" and almost ALL of them say "I wish I'd retired 5 years ago".

Maybe I just see a bunch of grumpy ones (even if they're nice guys), but regardless, you probably don't know how frustrated you've become with X company you work for and your negativity is not doing anyone else any good (unless you're using your street cred to get the company to change and most guys are too checked out at the door to do anything to help the next guys).

until you recognize something about life that is more important and/or appealing.  BTDT, it does happen.
