17 years ago, we brought you this discussion forum software.

After more than half a billion page impressions across all our forums, and several years of development, we are about to release new forum software that builds upon all the features in the current software, but adds a lot of new features.

What we would like from you is a list of features & improvements you are looking for in the new version of the software.

Please let us know

1. What new features you think can improve the current software

2. What we can fix to make the experience better

3. Will this be a better experience as an App on both iPhone / Android / IPad etc?

We will gather all your feedback in try to incorporate as much as we can into the new version as we are ready to release it.

If you see someone respond with an idea, and you like it, please respond as well. We encourage multiple people asking for the same thing as this will help us to gauge the popularity.

Thanks for your time and input

1. Once I choose "NO" for New Message Alerts I shouldn't have to reset it back to "NO" every hour.

2. Auto spell check would be nice.

Figure out a way to determine when the post is from non-aviation medical subordinates and consider it unauthorized. Then issue a permanent hardware and IP ban on that individual/organization.  They can go start their own forum and finally stay in their own lane!  I'm pretty sure www.selfloadingbaggage.org is available.

but totally disagree.  The forum is about the exchange of ideas and points of view even if the latter is fictitious. The idea is to promote thinking.  Restricting this forum beyond the current ROE is what I consider an infraction against first amendment rights (I know, tad serious) and detrimental to the development of all.

Kicking medical types off the forum disallows some pretty important feedback that allows pilot types a window to their world.

BTW, probably ought to review the applicability of past moderator actions.  Not against moderation, just a review as to applicability.

I get it as well.  Especially when I read between the lines.  I just think that most of the medical staff who get on this forum use the information to stir the pot even more than they do on, and especially off, duty which essentially is detrimental to our working environment.  I know this will never come to pass but my hope is to keep the oil separated from the water as it should be.

Imagine what the Feds would do to a non official "crew" member if they antagonized the pilots on a 121 flight.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say land immediately and have the police on the ground ready with handcuffs.  I digress, but here is my take on medical staff and their dramatic and toxic culture as it relates to the subject at hand:

Villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who cloak themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged.  But she, or someone like her, will always be with us, waiting for the right climate in which to flourish, spreading lies, backstabbing, gaslighting, pitting the crews against one another and doing that astonishingly better than her job title all in the name of righteousness. Vigilance is the price we continually have to pay and I am well vested

Unfortunatley, this is more a moderation and governance function. We are only seeking ideas on features of the software you are using. Anything in that regard should be taken up with the moderators of the forum.

But while ur at it might be a good time for that moderation and governance to be reviewed as well, might find software inclusions that can be enhanced.

The true problem with disallowing input from medical types is to lose the view of their twisted fake egalitarian highly hyped world.

Nary a day went by when I was involved in HAA did I not hear the word hero and all about the patient and saving lives and nothing else matters - you get it, not anything else matters, not even their constant irrelevant and distracting chatter when things mattered!  Keeping them on the Forum represents an intelligence gathering venue, a window to their world, a heads-up to their mental wanderings.

To get wrapped and twisted by their machinations is to stoop to their level and definitely say that you are a willing participant to their voluminous rubbish, which as you mention, only gets worse with time.

Most effective weapon I found in dealing with them was to ignore their idiocy when it arose.  Only one time did I  spar with them and it was with the inclusion of senior aviation management.  Ever hear of never being able to win an argument with a Chief Flight Nurse?  Well, this was a win, especially when I announced next stop was the FAA if the constant BS didn't stop.  And, no, I didn't get black balled.

Just based on the fact that anyone in aviation would be worried about getting black balled by sticking up for themselves because they are tired of putting up with Flight Nurse BS, as you said, tells me all I need to know about this industry and what type of people are in it.  That's EXACTLY why I said what I said when I said they can go start their own forum.

1. Those of you saying spell check. You know there is already a spell check right?

2. I'd like the ability to go back and edit my previous post. I completely understand why you would not want people to be able to edit, but if there was a way to show the edit history, or maybe something like a 5 min limit on being able to edit etc... I usually read my post again after posting and then realize I missed something or something doesn't sound right after I posted but can't change it. That would also maybe help with the amount of links not displaying correctly, or pictures being formatted weird, etc... Maybe something as simple as a preview button?

3. I don't ever access this page via my phone, always desktop or laptop. So a phone app would not benefit me personally. Others will probably think otherwise though I'm sure.

Make the "user name / author" remain blank if nobody puts anything in there.

The whole having to read the user name as part of the opening sentence then look down into the body of the message is REALLY annoying.  I'm assuming it's because if the username is blank it moves up the text from the body into the username block.

Look at the "I get it" post above.  The begininng words of the sentence of his post are placed in the User Name block.  At least that's what I think is happening.

It's here on this forum ALL the time.  It's fine when you click on each post but when you view it in "Display Message Thread" mode where you can just scroll down and see message after message it's so annoying to see a post where the first few words of the sentence are actually tucked up in the User Name block.

I don't know, maybe people are actually typing their first few words of their post in there on purpose?

I start typing intended text at the User Name: block simply because I have no user name and don't want one.

Please make it such that web links are clickable when entered without have to click enter multiple times for submissions.

Improve helicopter salaries section to have more readily available to improve updates by pilots and companies.

Allow user ID without revealing who is behind the ID to keep it private and get rid of the crap posters.

Thanks for all the work you do to give Heli pilots this outlet.

There are valuable industry discussions that I'm just not going to participate in if my employer (perhaps an RPMN advertiser) can possibly obtain my IP address.

Can they? I don't know...none of us do. But we probably aren't going to take the chance of speaking candidly to some topics if it places our continued employment in jeopardy.

EVERY website on the planet knows, or should know, what IP is accessing the site.  The ones that don't are not websites you would willingly visit.  Websites are only allowed to know your general area.  Courts are (or should be) the only ones to eventually find out your exact name and address via a lawsuit.

"Virtually every website on the World Wide Web (Web) will track and record IP addresses as visitors click through the site's pages. Two primary reasons for this are security and site improvement. Visitors are tracked by a website even when they don't register or log in"

Your IP address is not given to anyone. The only time an IP address is given away is when law enforcement subpoenas us. No exceptions.
