Msg ID: 2717926 AMC starting pay +2/-0

I looked at the CBA and it lists a pay range for new pilots. It also stated that existing pilots would get a 6.6% raise then 3.25% annually after that. Does this mean that the base pay scale will have gone up 6.6% and 3.25% annually as well? Just curious what is a realistic starting salary.

Any insight as to what qualifies one for higher starting pay on the scale? IFR, ATP, experience etc.?

The starting pay never moves, it's within that stated range.  With the inflation crap, and competitor starting wages, I'd be willing to bet you could negotiate starting at the upper limit or damn close to it.  IFR, ATP, and all other additional pay are stated right there in the CBA, and are paid in addition to your base pay rate.

Cost of living and hard to fill stipends are also paid "additionally."  I keep saying additionally because your overtime rates are based on just your base pay, not the additional payments.

Air Methodd is the place you want to go if your going for the long haul 100%. Made the mistake of try others but mostly because of base location. Skip Air Evac, PHI and Metro 1000% over.

Consider the whole enchilada...if you just consider the starting pay and not the safety, insurance packages, 401k, equipment, turn-over rates, employee satisfaction, business mode, wage increases, leadership etc. you may end up making the wrong career move. Take your time and do you homework fellow pilots...pay isnt everything.

is AMC finally paying for working at an IFR base?  That lack of IFR additional compensation kept me away from IFR bases - didn't need the hassle for zilch money.

Your starting pay will be in that specific range (not an increase of any percent; that was for existing pilots as stated).  They used to be sticklers for prior "EMS" experience only (and didn't consider military MEDEVAC experience either), but I didn't have either and they still gave me the upper end of the range because of qualifications I negotiated with them as to why I was worth it.

IFR is if your base is IFR.  ATP is if you have it (and you can get ATP from the company at your first annual checkride if you want to put in the work to get it).  Very few bases have COLAs (called "ACRA" or something like that) and/or stipends.

If you're not hard up for work and/or you've seen the base has had an opening for a while then I'd negotiate right now for an even higher salary.  Heard a rumor they're giving either higher salary or some form of "experience stipdend" but not sure if it's true.  For real; hold out for a month or so by sticking to your guns (and don't believe the "someone else is interested in the job") and they'll probably give.

The starting pay in this industry sucks and we need more people who are in a position to negotiate harder to do so for all of us.  The former military guys keep screwing us by accepting low wages because they have their retirement and VA disability so they keep accepting low wages.

Also, ditto on the comment about AMC.  Their standardization seems to be way better regarding training and onboarding.  Heard that from lots of other guys I went through training with.  They were all way more impressed with AMC (and by no means is AMC perfect; it's definitely Area Manager/Region specific).

Does it matter?  It doesn't matter until you've been made an offer anyways.  So, why not go thru the process and see if you can even get hired.  If you don't have the energy to do even that, we don't want you anyways.

68-73K Starting regardless of experience.

IFR 3K

ATP 600

Stipends from 5-12.5K

COLA at some bases.

They are bypassing the Union now and giving stipends from 3-8K.

Which means a new hire pilot can come in with less time in company and less over all experience and make more money than a long term company employee.

Pay has not kept up were it needs to be by far. 68-73K in Cali is below the poverty line, you can get food stamps.

Stipends are NOT protected and the company has given "experience bonuses" and other creative titles promising to give it to the pilot for the duration of employment only to STOP them months later....happening all the time. Want to FORCE the company to agree to the union demand to pay more? STOP picking up workover and covering shifts. Make them feel it or they don't care.

So you don't think it's the ex military guys with the pensions that will take the low starting pay jst for something to do that creates the problem ?

No medical to pay and $70k to suplement their pension  that's who's accepting every position !!!

I'm ex military and have watched it happening at AMC for 18 years so don't blame the civvi guys.

a look at airline starting pay.  Projected next year there will be a 12,000 FW pilot deficit just here in the US.

Some Regionals offering FOs over 60k plus signing and relo etc.

That's not bad given that 2-4 years later you're making over $100K (compared to the $40-50K days).

I know one Army guard guy who did 2 years with one of the flow to American regionals and jumped to Frontier at the 2 year mark.  First year at $60K minimum guaranteed, $95K 2nd year minimum guaranteed, then it shoots way up after that.

Check out the obvious regionals but also those lines like Jet Blue, Spirit and others of that tier.

Getting started is the most important aspect, and with entry to the larger equipment you can snag a better career progression with respect to just about everything involved.

Myself, did the airlines for short of a decade and got soooooo totally bored staring at an instrument panel and then inside of cloud that I just couldn't hack it further.

The pay was getting up there but sanity, or lack of it, prevailed in my case.  Is what it was.  History now.

Dude, AMC, Med-Trans, Metro, AEL, all the bottom-feeders... they all have the same pay scale +/-1-2K/month.

It will take you 30 years to make it to $100K for a career-field that's supposed to have "experienced" aviators flying their aircraft (i.e., this is not an entry-level job).

Someone else can do the math here to show what your money will be worth in 30 years after inflation but regardless: making it to $100K THIRTY YEARS from now is ludicrous.

Once again, a typical moronic response... so, did the math and you are waaay off. Also, you must consider the other benefits as well. Try to beat the medical benefits, for instance, of Metro. (Almost free.)

Bottom feeders? Again, waaaay off. Whoever really wants to know, go to a companies website and look for their programs and customers...this guy, GEESH Wink
