Is it true most helicopter pilots have at best, a 2 year degree?

Army warrant officer program only requires a 2 year degree for aviation.

Other Mil branches require 4 year degrees of their officers to fly.

Most civilian route guys don't even need to prove they graduated high school to start building hours.  And once that ball gets rolling I guess they could go their whole career as a pro heli pilot and never crack a book towards a degree.

No wonder you fellas don't make squat and fixed wing guys get all the cash and prizes.

Explains why some of you on here have reading comprehension problems, can't spell for $#!+, and can't win any arguements with the phantom Avionics guy who posts on here occasionally just to stir the pot.

By the way, it's me, that avionics guy.

Balls on ya chin.

I joined the Army when I was 17 out of the 10 grade.

One recruiter helped me with the "GED paper work, wink, wink".  Dad signed, and I was in!

Twenty-four years later... S92 pilot.

Never forget, school is really a waste of time, but mostly in the U.S. public systems.  Please try changing my mind.

Well if you were 17 coming out of the 10th grade, I can see why you think school is a waste of time since you had to keep repeating grades.

Intelligence and education, they are different. Born with or with out one, can buy the other.  I'll take intelligence over education if you can only have one. I'd say most people have neither. It's great if you have both, you can be successful and wealthy without either.

large generalizations but we get ur point.

Is what it is.

The education requirements have to do with the scope of variables pilots of certain flying vehicles doing certain jobs are going to have to deal with, effectively, given the total operating environment.  Which means one's mind best have had plenty of exercise and development in order to operate in the sophisticated and demanding ones that move from dealing with many many variables, constantly.

None of the above means education makes the pilot, it doesn't, it makes a higher quality thinker than those with lesser education or 'smarts', thus such individuals may be more effective in piloting jobs that take a lot of memory and quick and complex thinking (DUH).

This could be developed but the point is obvious.

There are plenty of very complex piloting helicopter jobs, and very very smart and educated pilots in all types of  aviation.  The overall assertion helicopter pilots have less education than those with jobs requiring 4 year degrees tends to be true (though the gap is closing) but doesn't mean they do not work up to and beyond their potential, learning as they go, just like all pilots, everywhere.  Different kind of respect, for all.  Worthwhile learning and practicing.

I assume you guys arguing against education are just trolling or joking around.  My college education has served me well, even as a utility pilot.  The statistics really do speak the truth.  The higher levels of education achieved, almost always correlate to a higher salary or salary potential.  As a chief pilot, I hire pilots and always look at their education level.  It's not everything, to be sure but if 2 guys have the same flying skill set I lean toward the more educated.  Just my 2 cents...

the way I used to operate.  A person with a formal education tends to be willing and able to operate in more areas than one without it.  Provides flexibility for the employer, not to mention a more interesting person to work with.

If you have avoided getting an education I suggest English and writing - provides the basis for developing one's ability to think.  Very important, will dictate how far you can take yourself.
