Have to say that after doing many, probably over two hundred touchdowns autos in a 407, it is the sweetest helicopter I've ever flown to complete touchdown autos. It is very much like a 205. Don't level like folks do in a 206. Just hold the decel and touchdown on the heels. The two common errors are leveling before touchdown, and too much decel causing a stinger strike. |

But it's all about insurance dollars and available spare aircraft. They would rather have an aircraft in service, than risk having a helicopter out of service because it was damaged during training.
The argument I always hear from the money watchers is, "When was the last time we ever had an engine failure?" |

In a helicopter, sump the fuel, keep oil filled, and tighten oil cap. |

and start, fly within published guidelines, cool down and keep your compressor clean and your chances go remarkably up that the engine will reach its tbo. Abuse those and all bets are off. |

Have to do it at a towered airport with crash/fire/rescue (Dallas Executive) on an adequate weather day, low traffic at the airport, time available in the training flight, and a willing check airman. It isn't a required manuver, but a really nice addition to training if you can get it. |
