The stereotypical American corporation where management ≠ leadership.

Yes, a properly run company should always be open to innovation and ways to increase efficiency.

An even better company not only encourages that, but rewards employees for those contributions.

Unfortunately what we often see are business 'leaders' who are completely out of their scope, and so worried about someone else outshining them that everything is micromanaged (and consequently mismanaged). Fall guys are stacked in middle management to take the heat when the business fails, yet have little to no authority to make improvements.

I miss the days of working for a small, well-run, family-owned operation...

about starting at the top and get rid of all the beurocracy?!

Never happens that way though.

When a company gets to the point management have to survey employees, which is a good thing, albeit, to answer their own questions they're hired to recognize the potential end is probably not far away.

The jobs get more impactful as you go up the ladder but people don't get much smarter.

At 3 companies I’ve offered to screen shipping costs for a 1% cut of savings. No takers.
Latest example; Mechanic had an exhaust stack shipped first-delivery over-night to our hotel. Cost $1,300 shipping. Well, exhaust stack being replaced had been cracked and ‘just watch it’ for 2 weeks.
