I don't know anything about Robbies or the newer piston airplanes,but older airplanes used un-filtered air for carb heat. |

True. Carb heat bypasses the air filter. So if you're using carb heat on the ground you are possibly sucking dirt into the engine |

I would say it would heat the engine faster. Since the scoop for the heat is directly off of the exhaust and it being pulled into the carb, when the carb is heated, and that heat is transferred into the metal of the oil pan and intake, thus allowing the engine to heat faster. |

The reason for applying carb heat is to prevent icing in carburator not the engine. There you apply it to heat carb not engine. However, warmer air will enter the engine but not really affect its temp much. |
