Technology part of infrastructure that the public will be forced to pay for.

The video doesn't have a problem with the tech (the guy that made it has a Tesla).

PROBLEM:  Even if the U.S. were to magically switch over and have *all* autos become electric, the number of charging stations would have to be MORE than the current number of gas stations - mainly because of the amount of time an electric car needs to sit at the "pump."  My local Tom Thumb has 16 gasoline pumps.  I can zip in there, quickly add 14 gallons of ethyl to the Edsel and, 23-skidoo, I'll be on my way in a trice, leaving the pump open for the next hepcat.

In my town we only have *two* EV charging stations: a single J1772 and one CCS.  The nearest Tesla Supercharging station is 40 miles away.  There are only *8* supercharging stations in all of Florida.  Can we imagine the traffic jam that is soon going to occur at the few stations as more and more "woke" people buy Teslas, Volts, Leafs and VW EV's as they become cheaper?

Of course, some people will be able to charge their EV's at home, but not everyone will (e.g. people who live in apartments, or those homes without driveways, etc.).

So yeah, charging infrustructure is what is going to hold up the mass proliferation of EV's.  The "greenies" and governments can blather on about wanting us to get away from traditional ICE-powered cars/trucks, but without a place to quickly recharge them, it ain't a-gonna happen.

You basically repeated exactly what was said in the video. As the cars become more widespread, so will the charging stations. I would imagine the all the gas stations didn't appear overnight, either. You always come up with the dumbest bullsh*t.

With all of the carmakers (e.g. Volkswagen) that are pledging to have "all-electric" fleets by such-and-such year (optimistically soon, in some cases), then the Big Changeover could be happening quicker than people think. So it's a legitimate concern to ask: Who's going to fund the charging stations; where will they be (and how big will they have to be); with no current standardization, what format will they be (remember the Beta or VHS competition?); AND - maybe most importantly - can our electrical infrastructure handle the increased burden?  Seems to me that California's energy grid in particular is ill-equipped for a big increase in charging stations and the cars that'll need them.  That's not a problem that is easily solved.  Texas?  They couldn't even handle a severe winter storm before their entire energy grid collapsed.

No, gas stations did not sprout up overnight, but our whole society and culture is different now and so the two scenarios are not in any way comparable.  I'd love an EV, but it would have to be able to make a trip from, say, Florida to Washington State without having to stop every 100 miles for thirty minutes (or more while I wait for a charging station to open up).

I'll head down to the library and ask the librarian for books on why our whole society and culture is so different now that we can't figure out how to charge electric cars like a gas station.

See, that's the thing with you guys: you like to make word salad pronouncements and then frame them up like forgone conclusions of common knowledge hoping nobody is going to call you out on your bullsh*t. So when I pressed you on it, you tell me I need to "go read a book". And you said it was going to be good. pffft

The video did not address how long it takes to charge up an EV using a 120V extension cord coming from your garage.  I'd bet it takes a long time.  Maybe you could use a 220V outlet like your dryer plugs into?  (Oh, and what does that do to your power bill?)

You're lucky, but not all people live in houses with garages.  I can't even get my car into my garage becuase of all the stupid motorcycles taking up that space.  But even if you lived in, say, the Surfside Condominium complex in South Florida, and even if the garage had some EV charging stations, you couldn't exactly park your car, plug it in and then go on up to your penthouse, have a drink and forget about it until morning.  All's I'm saying is that there are issues...big issues...that will have to be addressed before EV's are in widespread use here in the U.S.

In 1966 or 1967, GM made the Electovan and the Elecrovair fuel cell vehicles using technology created for the Gemini program.  Yes, over 50 years ago, we had fuel cell vehicles.  I'm sure the technology has improved, so why no focus on fuel cells?

From whence does the electricity to power the charging stations come?  Coal?  Nope!  Nuclear?  Nope!  Hydro?  Nope!   The communitsts are militantly against coal fired electrical generating plants.  We haven't built a nuclear plant in 40-plus years.  In fact, we have shut a few down (San Onofre).  There is a lot of talk about removing hydro-electric dams so we can save the fish.  What happens when you increase demand for electricity in the face of reduced production?  Ask the people of California about their rolling brownouts.

the world moves on with proven ideas born from genius that take hold via folks recognizing that it just works and they in turn want it.  Motorcycles, airplanes. etc.

no one is moving on the ev because only the flipping idiots are spending money on them.  anyone with a brain won't spend their money on that waste and instead buys a big duelly diesel to roll coal on said hipsters.

the only way an ev will ever work is if they figure out how to scale down a nuclear reactor to fit in the trunk of a car....kinda like today's submarines that have their own reactors and can run for 50 years before needing a refuel.  that's the only way ev cars will ever be practical.  until then you soy boys can suck on my coal.
