Some numbers. If you are on salary for $70,000.00, and that is based on 180 work days a year, that works out close to $200.00 per day. Time and a half for a workover would be about $300.00/day. You would have made $200.00 anyway, so you are only getting $100.00. To buy back the day and break even, they would have to pay double time. And that is only breaking even. I never volunteered for workovers, except some holidays which were triple time, and that was maybe 1 time a year I would even consider it. To make it worth my day off, 5x would be my possible tipping point.

everything else is wrong, too. what the hell does "buy back the day and break even" mean? If you work over, why do say you only get the .5 of the pay? If you work over at a $388 daily rate, you earn $582. $582 that you didn't have before.

Think of it this way then.

You have negotiated a $ per year (either salary or hourly), to work a certain amount of time in that year. You also recieve/negotiated benefits with your employer. Such as a 401K match, sick time, vacation time, medical insurance, dental, life insurance, you get the point.

The benefits portion of your pay averages 35%-45% of your compensation, depending on what you select. When you work overtime, do you acrue extra vacation time, better insurance coverage, a higher 401K employer match? I would be willing to bet, you do not. In the HAA world anyway. So, your 1.5 workover/overtime pay, is not really overtime pay at all.... It is you normal wage, or very close to it, when you include the average benefit package offered. 

Chew on that a bit

Everywhere I have worked I got more PTO and 401k contributions for OT. No, your health insurance premium doesn't change but why would it. I also get an extra $850 a day that I didnt have before. Why is this so confusing to you bro. You can't subtract what you haven't been given. Chew on that.

Never ceases to amaze me when some retired state cop cum local manager talks about how bases are going to be closed if pilots don't step up and live to work covering all open shifts to feed the stock option guzzling corporate crowd!!

Prime example of being naive, unethical and purely disingenuous!

What has to happen is the corporate crowds have to get off sucking the life out of employees with their greed and totally detached policy making, implementation, arrogance and dishonesty.  They are completely visible and have no clue about what others see them doing.

Why American employees put up with it is the mystery of our times.
