So what hour does a low time pilot become high time?

For me? About 8,000 hours. I thought I was really good and had a solid understanding of FARs and weather.
By 4,000 hours I’d had an engine failure and a few other close calls. By 8,000 I felt I truly knew the pilot thing.

Currently 13,800 hours

Yeah after studying the regs for 8000 hours, you know them pretty good. What a tool. You know when it's gonna rain, too after 8000 hours. Your posts are classic internet pilot stuff.

You NEVER know.   Just keep flying & learning about your A/C & your limitations & you'll have yourself a pleasant & fulfilling career.   Never, ever get complacent & let your guard down, or something may creep up & bite your proverbial butt.

Retired with 28,000hrs. 74yrs old, still flying my own airplanes. Consider myself to be just a high time student, as there is always something to learn or review.....

It's just that the high time guys can spot a low to no time guy a mile away. Utility flyer is definitely not the real deal. Utility flyers posts are hilarious.

I adjusted the idle on a B model in the rain, at night with a headlamp, offshore, at 8000 wrench time. Retired now.

You stop being "Low time" when you stop caring about hours. You become "High time" when your flight time becomes part of your personality and something you begin to draw self worth from instead of a byproduct of your job.

About 4,000 hours and a couple hundred thousand landings for me. They quickly add up at 1 hundred, hundred fifty a day.

When you have experience to pass on to someone who will take the time to listen and apply and not dismiss you as just an old fart who has the job they think they should have.

most of us fall into mid-time

low time:  getting hours keeps allowing you to hit the minimums for new and different jobs

mid time:  you already exceed the minimums for nearly every job out there

high time:  stop adding up hours (or even stop logging them)...make sure you open the logbook every month to record enough landings

 question.

Generally for less than 10,000 hours and/or 15 - 20 years on the job one is considered a junior pilot.

Most military pilots qualify, but, then, their job is a little different than the civil side of things.

 required.

There are student pilots, new commercial pilots, co pilots, first officers, new captains, junior junior junior, all junior.

Then there are pilots with a lot of experience and happen to be looked up to for their consistency and ability to help others.   When one winds up in that lot look at years and hour experience and you'll find 15-20 and over 10K.

All others are junior junior junior.  Is what it is.

Try some reality and respect.

Yesterday I showed up late, overflew an inspection, got lost, busted airspace, over torqued and left the bosses wife's bag on the ramp. I also didn't help anybody. Maybe in another 8000 hours, I'll do better.
