Do they make you call your manager if you turn down a flight for duty time and fill out an online questionaire explaining yourself aswell? Do they expect you to part 91 flight back? Or make you get a hotel?
Or is it up to the pilot? |

I don't know if on the local side it happens but working for Medtrans which is owned by GMR and GMR owns reach it's a non issue. Medtrans views you turning into a pumpkin at 14 hours, duty time turn downs if they are not very obvious might get a text from your regional manager who is just checking the box on his side and doesn't give you grief. If I do a duty time turn down I just send him text with a heads up and I get a thumbs up and that's the end of it. No expectations of hotels, I've run into that because I get stuck from weather but even then our service area is small enough an ambulance picks us up and back to base. The next pilot gets a ride from base to aircraft to bring it back. |

They will tell you that a lot has changed since 2003, that's all in the past and it doesn't matter any more. Unless of course you happen to be a surviving family member of the the three crew members that died that night.
But hey they knew the job was dangerous when they took it, right? Sin Loi!

10,000 hour ATP Certified captain that was ordered to 'try' after Calstar (then based at Ukiah) turned the flight down due to very bad weather.
Gotta make them bucks!

so go up and turn around like the other guy. A 10,000 hour "certified ATP captain" should be able to figure that one out. How many times are you going to keep trotting this one out. "Look what you made me do..."
Probable Cause and Findings The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be: The pilot's improper in-flight planning and decision to continue flight under visual flight rules into deteriorating weather conditions, which resulted in an inadvertent in-flight encounter with instrument meteorological conditions and a collision with rising terrain while attempting to reverse course. |

No pressure. No contacting anyone for duty time or weather declines.
If you can get to receiving in 13.5 then the expectation is to take it baring any other concerns. Pilot only return flights part 91 are limited to the 15th hour. Either pilot swap and get crew or they return via Lyft etc. As always, if there are any concerns crew can decline.
I used to work for a company where you had to call the chief Pilot when declining for weather. I quickly started looking at REACH and haven't looked back since. Nearly 10 years and I e never been questioned on a decline of any reason. |

it better than MacArthur's comment in WWII, something like ".....don't get yourself killed, make the other poor dumb bahst-ard die for his country".
If a situation looks bad, it is bad. Leave it alone and don't get wound up with dumb managers unless they are simply doing their job by requesting a reason for a flight cx they can attach to their file. |

You absolutely don't have to take a one-way flight with AMC. If you're getting pressure, contact the Union and file the appropriate reports. |
