I started hearing things, went through my house looking for issues, thought I was going crazy. Then I realized it was in my head. I guess I should have worn ear plugs under my helmet? Anyway, coming to find that there may be no real cure. A few web-sites have tempted me with clicking their link for a cure. Where better to find a info than on a helicopter forum. Is there a cure that has worked for you. Can I get better without drugs? Is there... one sec the missus is calling, oops its that noise in my head again. Help a brother before I go crazy. |

I've had bilateral tinnitus for decades now and there is currently nothing that can be done about it. There is some reseach being done into using a sort of noise cancelling technology where you use a hearing aid type device with a competing tone/noise that cancels out the one in your head, but it hasn't been widely used as of yet. The only "good' thing about it is it's an automatic 10% from the VA. The best advice I can give has already been said, you will sooner or later need to find a way to just get use to it. Easier said than done I know, but, unfortunately, that doesn't change the true and current reality of the situation. I'm sorry for your unpleasentness, and good luck! |

Have it something terrible from jet engine test cell work in the military. I have a box fan in my bedroom for background noise while sleeping, and a fish tank in my living room (filter noise). For the background noise. You will learn to live with it. Keep wearing hearing protection, even when working at home.It can easily get worse. |

That tinnitus is a automatic rating is a myth. I have it only in my left ear. flew helicopters in the Army left seat and the VA denied me for tinnitis. Tried twice and they confirmed that I had tinnitus and confirmed my helicopter experience and still denied me. |

As a few people have mentioned, naturally, you will learn to tune it out. There is a very successful treatment using CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and TRT (Tinnutis retratining Therapy). My brother has had it for years and this worked for him very well: Good luck my friend - I believe this may help |

Move to a place where you can hear a creek or waterfall at night. Whitenoise (can I say that ?) helps. You can sleep better. Don't concentrate on it . That makes it worse !! |

I had it bad for years and then I started religiousl'y wearing hearing protection and eventually it went away healed itself I guess I can't explain it. |
