So much discontent here on this site. 

Your employer owes you nothing more than your last two weeks of work. You get paid. Done. If there are any elements of goodwill or benefits that go along with you check, then good for you.

The sooner you realize this then the sooner you can unchain yourself. Continually try and improve yourself and waterproof your exposure to downturns and changes. When was the last time you learned something new? Take a break from aviation, you may enjoy it. 

Don't perpetually sail on the misery ship and come here and protest your woes. You have no rights. Your employer doens't own you and you owe them nothing. NOTHING ! It's just business. 

If you have a great relationship with your employer and you get treated well, then good luck to you.

The truly bizzare aspect of employment in the USA is employer based healthcare.  Of all the things I DO NOT want my boss involved with in my personal life, is mine and my families healthcare.  It takes a few seconds for most Americans to realize it, but if you think about how crazy it is to have your employer dictating your healthcare choices, it is an eye opener.

Do you want your employer involved in your mortgage?  Your car loan?  Your kids college fund?  You stock market choices?  If not, why would you want them involved with your healthcare?

so they can decide what the coverage is. If they paid your car insurance or mortgage, same thing.

The responsibility for arranging health care for themselves and their families. Usually with the town Doctor, who would make house calls. And then, these adults ACTUALLY paid the town doctor in money or barter. What a novel concept.

So... where do you get healthcare outside of an employer that you can afford?  

If you're retired military or scammed your way into being "100% VA disabled" please don't reply.  You have no grasp of reality of what the 98% of the world actually has to deal with.  

The point has to be agreed upon by defining terms. What do you mean by affordable health care?

Might as well ask him to define "a living wage," while you're at it. Gonna go out on a limb and expect that he's a big proponent of that conveniently ambiguous concept, as well.

 professional helicopter jobs I had before retirement gave me six months severance from two of them and a year on the last.  Not small companies.  The small companies I worked for, three of them, did nothing for anyone at any time.  We were their milkers.  Sucked.
