EC135 with metro EMS kit and Ferno 28-A1 stretcher.  Stretcher has a placard of 700lbs, I was told the limit was 350lbs, our WB app only allows up to 350lbs to be entered.  I'm trying to find where the 350lbs is written as a limitation.  I've gone through the standard limitation in the RFM, there is a 600kg/square meter floor loading limit.  The FMS for the EMS kit that references the stretcher installation does not state any weight limitation.  Gone through the drawings and maintence manual for the stretcher and ems kit and cannot find it.

The placard section of the EMS kit actually show 2 placards that say "P/N 135M-3500 IT-1 EVALUATED FOR A MAX WEIGHT OF 196 LBS. CONTAINMENT DIMENSIONS IN INCHES OF 21H X 74L X 20.5W. MAX VERTICAL CG<10.5"

Our stretcher is a Metro PN 135M-3500-2.

And yes I'm asking other in the company where I can find the 350 number but asking here too......

In a L4. So wide that her girth spilled against the sliding window and broke it. Management didn't complain, the lift was probably still very profitable.

I know the 196 lb limit is for the cargo deck. Not sure about the 350 on Metro stretchers.

I believe the 350lb limit is for the stretcher lockS and is part of the system STC certification. It shou!d be listed in the Metro RFM supplement if I recall.

Thats the exact thought I had, looking through the Metro EMS kit FMS135M-7, dated Nov 2019 and there are no mentions of it.  They talk about limits of the pallet style litters for equipment but nothing else.  Assuming someone did the math of the 600kg per square meter and got it down to a lbs per square inch and then took into account the surface area of the wheels on the floor to come to that 350 number.  Maybe I'll mess with the math later and see what that ends up at.

Its more than just the floor loading. The certification requires load tests in multiple directions at defined points, i.e., 4g forward, 2g vertical, etc.

Not to mention that those stretchers have a awful tipping concern when moving across uneven ground... Maybe something to do with that also.

It is based off of the year of manufacture. I don't remember the exact years and weights, but all 28-1 models after 2009 are rated at 700lbs. The previous years there is a couple of different weights until prior to 2003 it is 350 or 400 lbs. I have a email from Ferno with the info I can post next week.

I think it's at work so no reference but had something about that specific stretcher that noted a #400lb limit.

Saw on the Ferno site - 700#s.  Will have to check the reference but anyone close to the 400 may not fit anyway...

400 lbs. OSHA 50lbs per person, 8 people around stretcher max...=400 lbs. It's based on max number people you can get around the stretcher each lifting 50lbs.

now, I recommend petroleum jelly for the arms of the patient. Also, if 4 feet tall, 400 lbs...probably quite large circumpherence. 6'2" 400 lbs, not at large.

I remember seeing one of the earlier Ferno's that calls out the 400, ours is the 28-A1.

28-A1 | Ferno

The site shows it as 700 which is what the placard on the thing says.  Very interesting on the number of people and the limits.  I'm hoping someone can point to a piece of paper for the 350 limit or it might just be a company back saving rule.  We have our girth limits for actually fitting through the tunnel but those are casual numbers, not written in stone.  I'm just doing my best to answer the crews question and now my own about where that 350 came from.

If you look in the Metro FMS Limitations section under the litter install it puts the responsibility on the operator to calculate the loads on the stretcher. That is listed right above the 196lb limit you referenced. So based on that your 350lb limit is probably an internal company limit.

I tried to find the weight limit for that one time. It's not written down anywhere that I could find.

Bottom line is that Neutron stars shouldn't be transported in an EC135
