Its been almost twenty years of seeing the job board fill up with HEMS posts every month or so.
What's the point? |

it'll require more checklists, even higher wx mins, a longer risk assessment form, permission slips from mom (in triplicate), and a few more cameras.
and maybe another couple dozen medically grounded "virtual co-pilot" second-guessers peering over Junior's shoulder to "help."
solid plan. somebody in HR's got a bonus coming! |

Well, mostly so the HR can justify their jobs. True, there are jobs and I get calls or emails every week but no thanks. |

is HEMS is an activity that involves transporting patients to higher levels of care. Pretty simple. What is not simple is the career prospects of being a HEMS pilot flying minimally equipped helicopters given the circumstances and huge distractions to pilot thinking and implementing the required activity alongside a medical vanguard devoutly pushing their control over companies and their on site employees to get their way. This does never lets up and constantly confuses many variables whether one realizes it or not. Burn out is the result, thus, pilots moving on to other opportunities.
Money is not the primary problem. It is respect and honesty towards the aviation people doing the flying and fixing. |

Good post. Management never consults me, never asks my input, never listens to what I say...which is why I stopped saying it.
Every hitch, every day, comes down the latest litany of directives, instructions, changes, policies...none of which are negotiable or to be questioned. Just comply! Chop Chop!!
Management now has become simply the source of numerous distractions to my observing, thinking, planning, and doing process--which is the basis for safely, efficiently, and comfortably accomplishing this really very simple and enjoyable job.
That's why the job is no longer either simple or enjoyable.
