Anyone know how many flights per month an AMC base with a 135 needs to be profitable? Obviously it somewhat depends on payer mix but anyone got a ball park number?

Based in an expensive area of California with 140% ACCRA for pilots I've heard 11 flights a month breaks even.

The first eleven will cover the cost of the helicopter, now let's see what else we got.

Hosted by a fire department station. About 11 per month to break even.

I wouldn't be making long term plans. As you already said though, it's all about payor mix.

Speaking of AMC, anyone know how long their Indoc is?  How about an initial qual in an Astar or 407?

You really should start a new thread to get answers on this.

2 weeks overall.  First week is indoc (company rules/regs/uniforms/Part135 rules).  2nd week is flightline.  7 days straight between systems, preflight, sims (all at FlightSafety), and 2 flights (one night, one day).

If you're flying a unique bird (BK117, Bel 412, AW119, etc.) then you'll just go to your base and a check airman will come to your base to traing you for a week.  The majority trains in Denver.

They cover all travel, meals, hotels.  Some covered here, some reimbursed.  Don't get benefits until 1st of month after first 30 days or something like that.

Great training overall.  Great instructors.

Old rule of thumb was - 1 flight per day when operating an ec135 and 2 flights per day if operating an ec145.

Management told our base 11 flights to break even in the 135. We have an excellent payor base in an affluent area for IFTs.

About 18 to break even in the Souwest with a poor payer mix in an AS350.
