Long story short spent the last 11 years in Astars and now facing the possibility of flying a 407 instead. Having never flown one, I figured I'd ask the experts for advice. So far what I've gathered is the obvious left pedal instead of right, and watch out for TR authority. Any other tips or things to look out for are appreciated.

Enjoy it and never go back! Also the 407 has plenty of TR authority.

don't worry abou the tail. The worst thing you can do is start it in FLY instead of idle. Maybe they fixed it with the G models but it will start and when it hits 62% it will blast through to fly and overtorque the hell out of it. If you are fast you can catch it but it will still probably spin. Don't ask me how I know this.

I've flown both. You'll be happy with the 407.

The Astar is a little more comfortable. You strap the 407 on and wear it. In my opinion The 407 feels like it's part of you instead of sitting in an Astar. Don't worry about tail rotor authority, it has plenty. Hydro off is way easier in the 407. We practice hydro off to a hover and it's simple. Enjoy the 407 it's fun to fly, hauls a good load and if maintained properly more reliable than Astars.

I went from B3e/H125 to 407. Hyd failure and FADEC failure in B3e/H125 are simple.  Hyd failure isnt bad in 407 but FADEC failure in the 407 takes much more attention (new 407GXi is similar to B3e/H125 re the FADEC). B3e/H125 there isnt anything to do with a FADEC failure other than dont start it again until maintenance looks at it. B3e/H125 has no start temp limit.  407 below 150C.  May need to motor the engine before start if you arent shut down long/its warm out.  407 smoother ride. 407 cockpit is much more cramped.  Tail rotor authority is fine in the 407. Both about the same speed. You will miss the FLI in the B3e/H125 unless you are flying a 407GX or newer.  I like them both, just depends on what you are doing with them.

I will take the B3E anyday! It has dual FADEC and dual hydraulics! Our passengers prefer the A-Star over the 407 because of the open cabin that provides much better visibility than the 407! They are both great aircraft however!

How about the 407 sim versus the AS350 sim?  Can anyone compare/contrast?

Now in Astars.  Pretty comparable.  You'll like it.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. It's nice to know that it'll be something to look forward to, if for no other reason than to say that I've experienced both. Blue skies and pleasant flights to you all!
