Now that the Original Forum has become..., well, what it's become, isn't it about time to create a new forum that is strictly helicopter related? Let those that like to wallow in this swamp continue to do so but lets have a forum that is strictly helicopter related.
Please... |

Oh but we all love endless rants about unions and idle cryptic posts abut how the regional airlines can’t wait to suck up EMS helicopter people.
Yaaa…. I am friends with a Skywest training captain. Fully 60% of helicopter guys wash out.
But keep those posts coming as if the bosses give one flip about your idle threats. OR learn to long line |

The problem is that, despite immense evidence to the contrary, most of us are not one-dimensional. We love helicopters but they don't consume us. We have other interests outside of the (appropriately named) c*ckpit (asterisk preemptively added just in case the JH automatic censor program doesn't like "c*ck.") And so, as in most pilot lounges, the conversation here sometimes turns to other things... Like the moral imperative to get some controversial vaccine. Or the very obvious screw-up that was our withdrawal from Afghanistanistan. Or how we elected a doddering, senile old fool as our President and an giant cackling imbecile as Vice President simply because we had a deep personal dislike for the Bad Orange Man. What you read here will convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that helicopter pilots really aren't what anyone would call "deep thinkers." It's funny, but it's also kind of sad.
Sometimes we do try to talk about helicopters, but the "experts" who know more than any of us ever will always chime in and whine, "That's been posted already, you a-hole," or "What could you possibly know about X, you a-hole?" Here's what I do: I always expand the thread. If I see it devolving into the usual mean-spirited nastiness that is the hallmark of this forum, I simply move on to another topic. After two tries, I just X-out of this sewer and click on PPRUNE, where the pilots are just as arrogant/nasty, but being British, they're sometimes more polite about it than us. |

The Brits, OMG the Brits..... Why in the world they go out of their way to complicate the most simple of things I'll never understand!
I spent several years being "politely" insulted and put down by the British Army pilots in charge of the program I was working at overseas, simply for being an "American." As I was leaving the program I said to the most arrogant American hater among them, "I used to wonder how the British lost a worldwide empire and needed U.S. help getting bailed out of two world wars, but I don't anymore." He was beside himslef that an "American" had put England down! He actually said to me, "What exactly do you mean by that?" I replied, "you think you're smarter than me, you figure it out!"
To be fair, many of the Brits I worked were amazing folks and I count them among some of my best friends to this day. Oh, and they were just as disappointed with the program "leadership" (insert sarcasim here) as I was. Also, what that arrogant Brit didn't seem to get was I wasn't insulting England. I've been there a number of times and it's a wonderful place. I was insulting the British military's lack of sommon sense and flexability!

There's much truth in what you say.
I'm ex British Army (8yrs), came here in the mid 90's to get my licenses and never left. So I'm civilian trained but with a military background and I can remember in those early years considering returning to the UK and transfering my licenses. I had since married an American, incase you're wondering. I can remember sending my resume to a couple of companies and receiving a reply, I think it was Bristow. It was very short and to the point, thanking me for my inquiry and suggesting that I really don't have enough flight time or the authorization to work in the UK.
Funny, here's me, definitely a Brit, recently having served my country for several years, being told by some twat that I couldn't be considered because I'm not able to work there. Needless to say, I've never once had the desire to return and fly in the UK. It was probably some ex AAC or RAF pilot full of his own self importance and prejudices and couldn't be bothered to take a good look at my resume.
We can be wankers sometimes. |
