Ok, I'm 65....Class II med, good health, still pumping iron, no health issues, retired Army CWO, 10 years in HEMS, no accidents or issues - no offers.  Tons of jobs available, who's filling these slots, then?

 The openings are there.  If you are qualified, someone will hire you.  Unfortunately some of your peers have not distinguished themselves.  We just had one quit during training.  He was out of the industry awhile, had a lot of outside irons in the fire, and halfway just decided it wasn't for him.  I worked with 2 older (than you) guys.  Great guys, great pilots, great experience.  But "forgotten more than you know" was not just a saying.  They both earned their way into retirement, and the band wasn't playing.  No matter how good you were, sometimes it's time to go.  We have had some older pilots come through, who flat didn't know it in the first place, and they forgot the rest.  We had an older relief pilot come through, the crews (yes, melodramatic as they are) had more close calls in the week he was here than the last 5 years with the base pilots.  He also had this chronic cough, they thought he would die on duty at any time.

Frankly employers are afraid you don't have it anymore, or even if you do, that you will walk sooner than later (probably the bigger fear).  If you have 10 years experience, someone knows you.  Is there something in your reputation that precedes you?  Also, the "All hail my greatness" comes through on your post.  Is that coming through on your interview?  It is ok to think it, just need to dial it back for the interview.  You want to show confidence, not arrogance.

I've got 30yrs in the helicopter industry.  Based on the limited info I have (your post), I'm almost certain the problem is your attitude, not your qualifications.  Every employer hires fully qualified people that they think will contribute to their work environment.  "Most" qualified is meaningless compared to fully qualified and pleasant to work with.  It's probably not age, it's probably that arrogant and grumpy easily shows up in an interview and you earn yourself a no thanks.  Good luck though, keep trying and someone will hire you.

Again, more good thoughts.....and, mature and experienced does not automatically correlate to bad  attitude- unless that one nurse who is offended by everything gets on your case and won't let it go.....anybody ever have one of those?  Most or more qualified is established in the resume and flight hour breakdown, it's not fake .  I may keep applying, probably not....too many turn downs gets "old"....get it?  LOLOL!!

Sounds like you may have been inactive for some time.  Some employers require you to be current within certain periods, say within two years.

Yes sir, I am thinking you are correct....I started this attempt to reenter the HAA field after 6 years being away from the job.  Maintaining my Class II and Helicopter BFR status hasn't been enough.  So, this thread can serve as a learning point for industry pilots - if you have a break in service, don't let it go too long before you have thoughts of getting back in the seat.......annyeong!

You would have to get the hiring company on tape saying that they didn't hire based solely on age. Inhuman Relations is too smart for that to ever happen.
