Helicopter pilot who left Lafayette went down in Mississippi River (katc.com)

In a R-44 with a propane bottle and a diebetic on top of that.

Ended up saving the guy's life. It would be interesting to find out if the pilot wa the owner, and whether he reported his diabetes to his AME.

The propane tank didn't necessarily come from the aircraft...could have been floating in the river, the article just said he was found clinging to it, presumably for bouyancy. The guy was a private pilot flying with a BasicMed certification and not a medical certificate...doesn't mean he should be flying with uncontrolled diabetes, but maybe he skipped some meds while bobbing in the river for 12 hours.

It's a good thing he had that Hewitt training in the U stand in line college super dunker otherwise it could've been bad bad news for the Cajun that went to cross the Atchafalaya basin and didn't make it because the rubber band are 44     The moral of the story is nobody should leave Cowboys after 2 AM in a helicopter
