How does AM float position work? Do they try to put you on a 7/7 or is it all over the place? Plus looking for all the good and bad in the conpany. |

National Pool Pilot: Generally used to cover a base with a long term shortage. Week on/week off. Repeat until pilot shortage is fixed(new hire finishes training). You then move to the next base with a shortage, rinse and repeat. You are controlled by a scheduler in Denver. They try to keep you in the area you live, but you go where the openings are. Expect to travel on your days off .
Regional Relief pilot: These positions are posted every once in awhile. Cover shortages within a specific region. Some times week on/week off. Sometimes 3 days here, 2 days there, etc. No set schedule. I worked this position. I worked with managers and leads to get a 7/7 schedule but it didn't always work. Many a month I'd work 5 shifts at a base, did a travel day, then worked 7 shifts at another base. Took a week off, repeat.
Most people take these jobs to get their foot in the door, then move on to a base pilot position. Good luck. |

So, in your opinion it's better to be a regional float for more of a set schedule? On the travel to Nd from the job site. Do they pay you any travel time? |

182 days is now 2180 hours for pay computation for the calendar year. Straight pay for all shifts worked except union negotiated holidays. Straight pay for actual travel day time. No OT until you reach the magical 2180 hours. |

That may be the case for regional relief guys, they have a different setup.
I started recently as a National Pool pilot and I have been getting overtime on the travel days since my first hitch. |

NPP, thanks for the clarification on travel days. I've only worked Regional positions. The new hire pay is between $67,016 and 73,808. You can negotiate towards the upper range if you have some experience in 135 ops or the airframe they need you in. They will always try to go low on you.
The National pool pilot positions have an ACCRA of 110% so you can add 10% to your negotiated salary if you go that route. Very few Regional relief positions have an ACCRA.
If I was to do it again, I would go the NPP position. More schedule stability than the Regional positions and you are not locked into that position for a year as you would be with a Regional position. Also, being single in these positions is a benefit as you don't have to explain to anyone your $crewed up schedule. And your constantly changing $crewed up schedule. |
