I don't know how this insanity got started but I guess I need to find a new job. Can't they call it a helicopter? Nope. Could they call it an aircraft? Oh no. It's a ship because they heard some pretentious, dumb d*ck pilot call it that and it really caught on because it sounds cool and they get to pretend they're not just passengers. Anyway, have a great day.

We're you flying helicopters in 1977? I was. We called them "ships" because all the old guys who had been flying them for decades back then called them "ships." ...Maybe, just maybe, the trouble is not that everyone else is f---ed up, but rather that you are wet behind the ears, and should talk less and listen more.

as they leave you alone to do your thing let them call it anything they want to.  You will never win an argument with a quasi-customer who allege to be team members.  If medical characters are aviation team members they wouldn't constantly be trying to stick it (you're free to figure what) to their counterparts and the pilots and mechanics.  Comes with the territory.  Why?  Haven't a clue, don't care, and doubt anyone will ever put their finger on the answer to that one simply because it has been going on from the start of HEMS/HAA.

Aircraft, including fixed wing, rotary wing, lighter than air, spacecraft, etc have always been referred to as ships. Have you heard of the Starship Enterprise? Both have pilots and Captains. Both have decks. Both use tugs. Airplanes and ships both have rudders, propellers, spars, ribs, trim. Speed is measured in knots. Both have cockpits. I'm sure there is more. Please add to the list.

Referring to any aircraft as a "ship" is a term of endearment. I like it and I use it.

Back in the good old days, Bell called their first models, "Ship #1," "Ship 2," etc.  So although it might sound goofy *TO YOU*, it seems that the tradition of calling a helicopter a "ship" has been around a while.  Oh, and some fixed-wing pilots do refer to their aircraft as a "ship."  Must take a really petty, neurotic, anal retentive dork to get all worked up about this.

Oh, Bell didn't use it "just once."  I was saying that the tradition of using the term "ship" to describe an aircraft goes waaaay back.  Your disproportionate anger over this inconsequential issue is really shocking, and enlightening.  We really do have some children posing as adults and posting on this board.  You are definitely one of them!
