I must be in the minority. I've been flying EMS for 20 years after getting out of the military. I still love my job and love to fly. Are there others out there that are also happy? So many seem unhappy with there work life, but maybe it's just seems that way because of who posts on this forum. life's to short to hate what you're doing and try to pull others down with you. Today is a good day brothers If you think it and make it that way. Many have it so much worse. |

Not every base, every flight or every crew. HEMS crews were much more positive- except when I got'em up at 0200 for a long haul. Overall a positive experience for an old guy tired of living out of a bag. NVGs made nights better than day flights. HEMS doesn't fly a lot, my only complaint. 150 hours a year was the average last time I looked, 10 years ago. Do not socialize with the med crew. Civil, professional exchange of information, just as you would any passenger.

part "Do not socialize with the med crew." When it becomes advantageous for one, some, more than that, or all of them, to dump on you, they'll do it to the last individual. Think you have something good going with them? Think again. Intrinsically they are not nice people, at all. |

This forum is a mico-version of HEMS / HAA. All the hate and discontentment you see here is a mirror of the real HEMS / HAA world. So is the outright stupidy of helicopter pilots across all helicopter flying jobs. I completely agree that we all choose to be happy, or not. But after being out of HEMS for over 5 years, I can tell you it is MUCH easier to be happy when you're surrounded by great folks e.g. NO helicopter pilots or med crews. I'm sorry this post can't be more positive. But your helicopter "brothers" have made HEMS the misery it is. Take it or leave it. Sadly, you enjoying HEMS / HAA makes you the exception by a far margin. |
