There a is a continuous comparison on this form between what airline pilots and EMS RW pilots make. Here are some facts in the irrational position that the EMS pilots should make as much as the 121 pilots.

Airline pilots fly 75 to 100 hours a month and have many passengers. They also have to travel with many overnights for the entire career.

EMS helicopter pilots fly 4 to 12 hours per month and have 2 to 3 passengers.

Which do you think should make more?

Also, the regional airline pilots work a heck of a lot harder and make less than the EMS pilots.

In life you have the self choice to be happy or unhappy. If you're unhappy, then you are free to make a change. The worst thing you can do is make those around you suffer because of your unhappiness. It is human nature for some people to never be content and this obviously runs rampant in our society.

Regionals require WAY more work.

spend the day flying four legs with an aircraft swap or two, a sit at an airport, to spend the night at a hotel

vs

watch a movie, take a nap, go fly, come back to have dinner before finishing the shift and heading home

if they ever paid the same, I'd never consider an airline.  The money is the selling point.

Your fixed wing EMS counter-part is on the same schedule, earning 30% more, flying organ coolers between airports in King Air rather than dodging power lines at 2am in a helicopter.

But please, go ahead and list all the dumb reasons why you work for peanuts.

I didn't realize you are too dumb to understand an apples to apples comparison.

Forget 121 airline vs 135 helicopter ops. Look at fixed wing vs rotor EMS. Who gets paid more? Who gets better benefits? Who has the easier job?

The fixed wing EMS pilots don't even have to stay on base while on call. It's typically a 1 hour call-out window. Most of the flights are scheduled in advance. So they're relaxing at home, getting paid substantially more, doing easy low-risk flying while you dumb-azzes try to justify working for AMC or Metro for $70k per year.

Regionals are basically the tours portion of an airline pilot career. They are never going to pay the same. Do you really not understand these things? As much of a draw it is to sit around watching TV with the med crew, I think  an airline pilot job being a 1000% better career is the big draw, dumbass.

Nobody said they don't deserve their pay. I work a lot more hours than an airlime pilot. I don't give a f**k about flight time or number of passengers. I don't expect to make 300k as an EMS pilot. The point is the airline pilot career is a much better choice and most helicopter pilots are underpaid.

spend hours away from home but most EMS pilots don't work most of the time they are there. Most I know grew lazy from years of sitting around flying 20-30 hours a month. Not all for sure but slot. Cracks me up when I hear these pilots talk about being underpaid...like every other profession, if you don't like the pay do something else!

Helicopter flying is the blue collar job in aviation. Always has been and always will be. Doesn't matter if it's an S92, R44, or EC135. The pay will always be less than the airlines and it's NOT comparable to the airlines. Get over it, accept it, or move on. Geez this argument gets old.

whether a helicopter pilot career was comparable to that of an airline pilot, not just the pay. Very few helicopter pilots are going to make 300k a year. Lots of airline pilots will. Everybody knows this. You morons don't even know what the argument is about. lol

What is your reference???

A United 3rd year 777 FO makes 200k.  Im positive 80% of that seniority list makes over 200k now and the top 30% is closer to 300k.  Those amounts are based on the pilot getting paid min guarantee and not picking up extra trips that pay 50-100% premium pay.

don't forget about the 401k employer contribution... 16%

free pass travel anywhere in the world

etc

etc

A buddy of mine started flying airplanes about the same time that I started flying helicopters.  He is now an FO at a major airline in his 8th year and according to the pay scales makes about $140 a flight hour. Guarantee is 79 hours.  That's $132,000/ year.  His first year with the majors he made just over $60,000.

We talked the other day as he was sitting on the ground at some airport.  They were an hour into waiting to depart and I mentioned that he was at least getting paid.  He said nope, he only gets paid block time.  No compensation for his commutes or extended times in locations.

In comparison, he has been furloughed 3 times when working for the regionals for a total unemployment of almost 4 years.  During that time he flew for peanuts on side corporate jobs.

Compare that to EMS - we are almost guaranteed not to be furloughed.  So you have a base pay between $70-80K as a new guy.  Work a little OT and you can easily get over $100K.   Been flying for more than 10 years like my buddy?  Most likely you are in the $90's for pay and can easily clear over $100K.

The grass might be greener becasue it's painted that way.

it's greener. You're good buddy is making a helluva lot more than 130k. A sh*t ton more. Corporate pilots don't fly for peanuts either, bro. Let's face it: you made the whole thing up. I mean really, you expect anybody to believe he was furloughed 3 times between 2013 and now? Sorry, pal. Hate to tell you but he will earn 3 times what you do over his career and has a much safer and better job. Try reality, bro.

One gets paid is partially your rationale trumped by supply and demand.  The rest is from the pay or base hat supports the type operation undertaken.  UPS freight brings in a lot of money, so, UPS pilots can bargain for their share of a larger money pie.
