Nothing to hit but the ground and nailed it, good job. Why land perpendicular instead of parallel? Argue away dummies |

Easier to make that mistake at night where rising terrain less visible.
BTW, where were the "Flight crew'? How could they make such a bad decision and "allow" the pilot to land there? Didn't their "superior knowledge and education" not see that coming?
THen again, if that had been a 407 it would have been doable. |

Because loading is much easier against the rising terrain as opposed to the flat asphalt |

Sometimes bad things happen to good people and good Pilots.
It is by no means a reflection upon their skills |

Not a bad call. Land length ways on the pavement people are going to be wanting to walk around the helicopter. They have to get on the grass, which puts them walking uphill into the blades. It also keeps the Med crew on solid level hard surfaces for gurneys and facilitates loading. Hes just forunate he wasn't in an external tailrotor machine. ( I wound have called it a ship but I understand that is no longer acceptable (cool) in new millenial language. ) Piece on DUDE ! |

On the Huey, Jetranger, EC(Airbus) 130, the stinger under the tail rotor is more springy, and acts as an automatic leveling device if you don't plant it too hard. |

they load the ec135? from the back. How on this blue and green earth, with the clam shells open, were they going to load the guerney? You're worried about them walking on the upslope with the grass? They will have to blow their backs out anyways on that upslope.
Land parellel and you shut it down.. and while you're at it slide to the right so there's ample passing room on one side.
This was a rookie and or unprofessional move. |

Oh my! a little bent tail fin? That IS cause for alarm all around the medical world. Is there a flight stand down? Re-writing of ops manuals far and wide? Quick.... everyone to the sim for emergency training.
Oh.... hey did you hear an entire helicopter is at the bottom of a lake in California ? No? Well it was hardly mentioned here.
You med types are such a bunch of drama mamas |

Look up one thread. Full news article. My point is the inter company piz make with med fold turn the slightest incident into a all day tread. Clearly no one was hurt by the tail strike. No one in the helicopter pro pan ply noticed. It actually could have flown away had no one seen it.
YET, a pilot swims out of a sinking 212 and it hardly raised and eyebrow.
Now, if your med competition leave 4 drops of oiled on a hospital’s pad photos and ‘unsafe’ post blaze away. |
