Any real fire pilot knows that all government owned aircraft be state or fed are absolute garb at fighting any fire And just get in the way.... second, we all know how terrible CA is and why it burns so bad all the time. And third, it's not surprise at all to anyone that that guy lied.....it's CA what do you expect.... |

Hardly. Some of the most experienced and effective firefighting pilots are working for government angencies throughout California. With salaries upwards of 300K annually, those agencies attract some of the best in the business. As far as us getting in your way, I don't recall getting in any contractor's way while making 1,000s of night water drops. |

You're going by hours as your deciding factor for experience, then I think you're the one who is misinformed. I've flown with countless pilots with over 15,000 hrs who are the most dangerous I've ever flown with and then been with 3,000 hr guys who were extremely switched on. There is such thing as being past your prime, and the amount of numbers in front of the comma isn't the best indicator of someone's ability. |

LACOFD.. the most effective? like running out of fuel and chopping off tailboom in a 412? How bout striking a steel pipe with tip of rotor blades? Shall I continue?
You could get the same results employing 20 civi pilots at 140k a year, less the pension.
Self inflated ego... does the uniform come with clown shoes too? |

California lied. Shocking. As far as fire goes it's not that hard. Put blue on red. Hardest part is the different egos with the different groups in a place like california. when I stay out of region 5 I enjoy summer camp. It's a vacation from real utility. |

Back in the days if you flew fires you were also a logger. Same on the ground. If you were a Cat skinner you fought fire.
Timber was money and life on the north coast and most everything north of Redding. I saw a change when the spotted owl was used as the reason logging slowed then stopped.
40 years later overgrown forests and terrible management of really vast amounts of timber, I mean unfathomable to those not from Northern California, have lead to places no entity can ever slow a fire.
That said, also gone are the days when loggers like myself saw profits burning and didn’t screw around getting fire out fast. Pretty boys with $30 million helicopters just will never get it. |

I had relatives that were fallers and choker setters, they all jumped in to fight a fire, as you say, profits were disappearing. |
