I was just hired by the FAA as a ops inspector. RotorCraft.

I am 31 years old and started flying at 25 years old. I have about 2000 hours total time all in a H269 and R22 as a flight instructor at a 141 school. That's it.  No turbine time  zero.

Thought I would put in an application for the heck of it and they called me within two weeks.

Suck on that you 20 year military pukes that think their gods gift to aviation. 

The human resources rep told me that 20 years military time combat time is exactly what they don't want. Bad habits and mind set for civilian aviation.

I believe the original poster. I have been with the FAA for 21 years and things are very much changed here. The ideal hiring candidate is someone with about five years commercial flight experience non-military commercial and possibly airline transport pilot cert.  
over the years here at the FAA straight up no ball we have not had very good success with retired or X military personnel. Yes there have been a few that have done all right and there will be those of you with your ego bruised saying oh that's not true and I know this guy at the FAA that was with the military and so on but the fact is I believe the original poster. And he will do very well and he will be very successful. Most of the retired military or X military people hired here at the federal aviation administration are not very successful and don't last.

Mr FAA, if you think someone that includes this in their post makes a good candidate for that position, then Sir you are part of the very problem that we have to deal with every time you show up flashing your badge. Times must be tough if this is the best you guys can get. 

BTW, my military service was only four years so don't go with the career stuff with me. 

"most of the retired mil people at faa are not successful"....what b*llsh*t. the retirees from des rocket straight to the top of the nit-noi rulemaking department, that's why we got silly things like local flying areas only for haa in part 135, and also the brain-dead requirement for tac instrument flight planning (which is what the highest-obstacle-enroute silly game is, really). the des has-beens write the stuff the feds put out for rules, attempting to make far 135 for helicopters and haa specifically into ar 95-1 and turn the civil flying into the only thing they know, which is army army army. it sucks but it is real and has been going on for years. the guy who says the faa isn't lousy with ex-mil, especially ex-army, is living in another universe, not this one.

I have been with the FAA as a operations inspector for 18 months and I agree with the original poster he sounds like the perfect candidate to me. Young obviously smart to accomplish what he has and obviously has the great attitude with computer skills. So many of the old timers with a strong military background come in the FAA here with a big attitude and chip on their shoulder. They think they know everything, they think the world owes them and they think they should be spoonfed everything.
I would hire and have better success with a civilian trained possibly a short successful commercial background.  Said individual will most likely have a thorough knowledge of the federal aviation regulations which most retired military personnel do not. Someone with a 20+ year retired military background almost every single one of them without question are just plain a-holes.  NO PEOPLE SKILLS.   

What the op doesn't know is people who go to work for the FAA can't handle working for a living so it seems to be the perfect job for this guy.  It is a shame he wasn't accepted in any branch of the military.

It makes good sense to have a mix of varied experience levels.  However, to stereotype entire groups displays a high level of immaturity.  For the original poster to come straight out with a post like that just shows how pathetic of a person he/she/it actually is.  But, the majority of this entire forum is chocked full of BS and numerous bitter people.  It has certainly gone down hill.
