If a Nam pilot was 19 in1975, they would be 65 today.  The youngest Nam pilot I know is 67.   Been flying 35 years, and I do not know a single Nam era pilot still wiggling sticks.  Only ones I know that have yet to retire are in management.

thank God!  Will not take away from their Nam time, they went through

some horrific sh*t.  On the civilian side though, most of them were a pain

in the ass.

Were'nt to many "NAM" pilots in 1975 if any.  1972 was about the end of it.  Yes most of us are retired.  Thank God !  In 40 years in the industry I aways heard of the "Pilot Shortage", never saw it.   Pay was always suppressed because there was always 10 pilots for every job and operators took advantage of it.  Our equipment was much less sophisticated than what you guys get to fly.  We didn't have every Acronym program or union protecting our AZZ.   Just the good ol FAA and trust me, they were not there to help you !  Not complaining, just a different time.  But I am glad I flew in my time rather than yours.  This industry is like war.  Nothing ever changes.  Just new weapons and different people.

even if half of the pilots flying today left the industry for one reason or the other, we wouldn't need any more.

...but...but...pilot shortage!!

...Gwendolyn, please. There is no pilot shortage. That lie is told so that gullible young folk can be separated from their future earnings by indebtedness, and awholebuncha flight schools can stay in business.

fact is...there are a lotta helicopters out there that just aren't needed. too many ships chasing too little business. and it's gonna get worse in the future.

to sum up: too many pilots...the world don't need any more pilots...if you are thinking and dreaming of being a pilot, get some professional help. but don't be a pilot. you are not needed to fly. the end.

Sometimes you do nothing for a whole week.
