Don't worry, you'll get cross ref and get caught. You won't be the first. Did you report it on your medical? I'm gonna guess no. |

Former military aviators, with disabilities that preclude them from performing as an active duty aviator, have been drawing disabilities and flying since the Korean war. Just because an aviator cannot pass a mulitary flight physical doesn't prevent the same aviator from qualifying for a FAA medical certificate, in many cases. |

And you gotta have a regular MD and then the AME, who never get the same information. Airline pilots have been skirting the system forever, and GOM pilots too. We had a guy with a handicapped plate who would park right by the front door of the base. PTSD al the way..... Don't ask and don't tell was/is the credo |

The Army grounded me for an eye problem and the FAA granted me a waiver. I flew in the GOM from 88-06. |

That is completely untrue. The road to a renewed medical can be a long one, but it is not impossible. The last guy I knew who disclosed PTSD took about a year and a half working closely with a HIMS AME to get his initial Special Issuance. He maintained a Special Issuance for two years, but now qualifies for renewal of his med cert without the S.I. And you're not put on any no-fly list. |

no. It's not.
Out of curiosity, how exactly do you think "disability pay" works? Just give me a quick rundown on how you think it's determined, approved, then paid out. Does everyone with a disability rating get this "disability pay" to which you referred? |

If it's a combat related disability, it has a monetary monthly value paid to the vet. It is based on % of disability.
PTSD is usually around $1100 a month for Viet Nam era guys.
Now the more recent PTSD claims of millennials such as "I had to use a dirty toilet facility" or the like may be another story. Not to take away from the true PTSD triggers, but RVN combat Vets weren't coached when they DROS'd like later Gulf War guys were on how to make claims and get benefits. |
