With travel Slowly coming back, does anyone know if any fixed wing operators are still offering the Rotor transition program?

The airlines were using the RPT program because they were getting $49,999 for every candidate that they took into the program. All the airlines had to do was hire the individuals and they had to show up to their first day of work and they collected the money from the government. Some were very successful but the majority washed out and never made it to the actual flightline. That might have been partially by design by the airlines to collect the initial hire money from the government. So unless the government brings back the subsidy to hire via the RTP program you will not see it happen again especially with so many pilots being out of jobs right now. |

I don't know what a RPT program is. But if you're referring to the RTP program, you're a complete idiot.
"the majority washed out" you claim. That is incorrect. The RTP program was a success for not the pilot and the airline.
sorry if you washed out bro, flying for the airlines isn't for everyone. It probably best you stay offshore in a VFR 206

What the guy said about being a RTP program being a failure is very very true. A good friend of mine is a manager at the Atlanta FAA and he looked up Several airlines that were highly involved in the RTP program through their safety assurance system known as SAS and said the check ride failure rate went from 3% to 22% during the time of RTP. The safety system the FAA uses lit up like a red flag basically and action was taken.

what action was taken? The FAA created the corona virus to end RTP? Only reason RTP stopped was airlines shutting down and I don't know if you noticed travel demand halted.
If one regional airline hired 1000 pilots, some hired more, in a year. What's your guess of how many were rotor? 100? 10%.. if all 100 failed it still wouldn't cause the statistics you provided. So, your puppy mill flight instrcutors and other fixed wing pilots had plenty of failures then too.
I sure hope you don't have kids. If so, make sure they receive a proper education unlike you. |

There was only one regional where RTP guys had an unusually high failure rate, and that was only temporary. They had a few training classes where every or nearly every prior-mil RTP candidate failed. The anomaly was traced to two guys in their training department who had a hard-on for military guys and were looking for every reason to fail their students. It got sorted out, but they lost a significant number of good dudes before they fixed those two. |

Hate to burst your bubble but there were quite a few Airlines using the RTP program in order to get the military incentive payment from the United States government. And the failure rate was not tracked it to individuals it was tracked to all check airman that were failing stude because they weren't meeting the standards simple as that. Hate to burst your military ego gods gift to aviation bubble but same story over and over again and everyone in the industry knows it.

I was a 20 year retired army W4 Blackhawk instructor instrument instructor.
I went to work for MedTrans for about a year and was accepted into the RTP program for PSA Airlines.
There was 14 in my new hire class and 6 were in the RTP program. Only one of the six in the RPT program passed and it was not me. All eight of the others passed. The only one that passed in the RTP program was an individual that had some previous airplane time.
What got the five of us failed was complicated airport taxi instructions SIDS and stars and we were expected to know all of that stuff before we got there. They did not teach us how to fly they only taught us how to fly per their ops manual and Ops specs and the training program. We were not given time to study. Like I said we were expected to know that stuff already. Not a lot of those Blackhawk guys knew a whole lot about complicated airport taxi instructions. And I have never flown a star in my entire military career.
I am sure I will hear comments from other army guys that think their gods gift to aviation and act like they know everything in the industry about how I'm an idiot and I didn't know what I was doing and they do but facts are facts.
I am retired 101st and 160th.

nah... I don't think you're an idiot at all. Like I stated above, I heard thehorror stories about PSA. All my prior squadronmates and acquaintances who went the RTP route made it through except the one who went to PSA. And he described it pretty much as you did. 9 prior military pilots in the class. Only one of them completed the training.
Everyone else I knew found their syllabi challenging, yet successful. They represent a pretty decent sample across the other regionals at the time- Skywest, Envoy, Mesa, ExpressJet, TSA etc.
I think I'd like to give it a try, but I'm really digging the stability of my current job for now. Maybe someday. |

Mine at PSA differed:
4/5 RTP made it. Non-RTP went 13/15. I saw some things that could be improved, but it wasn't horrible. Taxiing could occasionally be a challenge, but they have taxi diagrams...and the airport to which we are landing is very rarely a surprise. |

I gave a STAR to a my co pilot when we were going into Wright Patterson. He had never seen one before, and just laughed. Half way there we were assigned the STAR, and he whipped it out of his chart bag. I will say that it was as rare as a blue moon to be assigned a STAR, while in the military. I will also say, that it would be close to impossible to accurately navigate one without RNAV, or something similar. |

Impossible to do one that requires RNAV. For the rest, it is pretty basic airmanship. If a dual-pilot crew cruising around at 100 cannot accomplish it, then they've been failed in initial pilot training

THe likelihood of a 90 knot hubert being assigned a STAR is nil. You have .85M aircraft in trail. They have RNAV, inertial NAV, GPS and just about any other leading edge avionics available. |

definitely is an education and general intellect difference betwixt most of the AF and Army pilots. However, ask an AF pilot to go along on a mission in an Army helicopter, as an educational orientation, and see what happens.
In RVN we settled a bar dispute by interchanging that way. All four AF pilots bailed as soon as possible after the first combat sector. The Army pilots were lined up for A-37 mission orientation which had to be turned off by the AF CO.
Being an Army pilot is direct direct direct support for grunts, not just "support".
It all has its place.
I look at Army pilots as flying infantry, AF pilots, they're pilots, but that's the end of it.
