This year, United Airlines will be hiring more pilots in a year than it's ever hired before
In the fixed wing world, recruiters are saying they are already having problems finding qualified pilots for positions and THIS pilot shortage will be far worse than the one we had before covid struck.
How many people do you think started or continued flight lessons during the pandemic?
It's a good time, once a gain, for pilots, in the coming months and years.

More negotiating power to those interviewing if more rotor guys/gals go back to the airlines. |

Please find the diversity ad for United. It’s out there as public information I’m just dumb enough not to be able to link it. United plans on hiring, training at least 50% of new hires to be POC or women.
Should go great for that demographic as that goal is unreachable at typical pay.
Bring on 80% above typical pay so as to reach the desired goal for those of the desired demographic. The rest of you? Well, NO! |

There may be a fixed wing pilot shortage coming but hold your breath for a rotor wing shortage. |

More and more RW pilots are being hired by the airlines. For anyone 45 (or even 50) and younger, skip the helicopter jobs and go straight to the airlines. Upgrades are faster, and even first year captains at most regionals make more than most helicopter pilots. Even if you stayed at a regional - for seniority and more control over your schedule and quality of life - you'll still make more than the average helicopter pilot.
We are already seeing shortages in finding and keeping qualified helicopter pilots in helicopter jobs. |

In the past United went heavy on diversity in hiring over experience. At the time, other pilots started referring to that airline as "Yo-Nited".
