Msg ID: 2675739 MTC union question +1/-2
Author:So, how will this work?

I understand that union cards will be sent to current employees. Will MTC have access to the names of employees who sign and return these cards? There's understandable concern regarding retaliation for participating in an organizing effort.

Any other information regarding this process and how it would proceed would be appreciated.

Only wish I could decertify our union.  MTC currently hires year 1 above AMC who has been union for many years.  Explain that.  I get 3.25 increases for a few years and then years of stalemate followed by concessions in the form of month of reimbursement.  Crap deal.  Cost me a grand every year to be a part of this terrible ponzi scheme.

I guess complaining like a passive-aggressive is easier that putting actions with your words. You want the AMC union gone? Under RLA, you have only one option: alternate representation. Just get the majority of the represented employees to petition NLRB for alternate representation, and wah-la, your union is replaced. I have summarized the process and maybe used some incorrect terms for brevity but the process is spelled out, all you have to do is put in the work to follow it and get it done. But actual work is hard. It's much easier to just sit and stew and complain, n'est-ce pas?

...have lots of leverage next go-round to get more of their want list than union will get of theirs. They will likely recover all the paid out benefits their medical and office and management staff gave up in the pandemic sacrifice that the pilot's bragged about keeping.

MTC 3% annually, AMC 3.25% when there's a current contract and 0% when the contract has expired and the new one is being negotiated which can take years. I would much rather have a consistent than an unknown due to the contract negotiation periods.

Also, the starting pay is the same and can be higher if the pilot is brought in at a high step based on experience.

Do you know why they hire above AMC, which I don't believe but I'll play your silly game troll.  Because AMC set the standard with the union.

Think about it.  Do you think AMC would pay what they are paying now without a union?  Who do you think was the first company to actually pay vacation, ovetime, workover, guarantee raises etc. AMC, and they didn't do it because they liked us.

Now, every other company had to match it pretty close.  But that's all they do is match it.  They could come in a couple thousand over what AMC pays, sure.   And for some, that's enought to uproot their life and move across the county for a couple thousand more.

But, if these companies were as good as they tell you they are, they would paying way much more, right?  So there would be no doubt how great they are to work for.  10 or 15k more, right?  But they don't.  They just match what AMC does every contract rotation.  Think about it.

I've been in the industry over 25 years, all of it with AMC.  I've seen it before the union and after.  It's been better after the union.

How is asking how the process works, considered "busting"?

Since nobody, including you,  has answered differently, I have to assume that yes, the company will have ready access to the names of people who sign cards. That's important information to know when deciding how to respond to an organization effort.

Still hoping for more information on the process, from those "in the know."
