Pay and benefits will increase. Seniority, ability to file a grievance. Structured pay scale. Worth every penny you put into it ten fold. Best thing you can do.

The whole "negotiate" thing for individuals is garbage. Usualy just a small amount of wiggle for when you ask for more but more often it's a "take it or leave it" situation. In most situations, the union employer will pay a higher rate and unions bring up wages at non-union companies. Non-union companies usually don't want to pay you what you're worth but they have to remain competitive. Always better off with a union.

While what the union did of lately in the GOM is questionable at best, what they accomplished in regards to pay initially was pretty significant

They'll initially send out cards to be signed, right? If I sign and return that card, will MTC know that I did? If not then, at what point will they?

Will MTC have access to a list of signed returned cards during the organization process? Is my job at risk because I signed a card?

Can someone who's been through it tell us a little bit about the process?

MTC was a good company, and still is, but some things need to move forward.  Lacking a Union, that won't happen.

Former helicopter mechanic, (PHI, AMC) retired airline mechanic, (United) current King Air Mechanic, IAM represented;

2021 Unionism =

I pay $70 per month

published pay scale and scheduled pay increases for the length of the CBA, a defined pension fund or published company contributions to your 401K,  as per the contract not the whims of management

Additional $$$ for health and health care benefits

Defined vacation and sickleave

Defined grevience procedure

Educational benifits, in our case the IAM will pay tuition for immediate family members to earn a 2 year degree.

Job protections in the event of Military Leave, disability or while out on FMLA, (no worries about some B.S. middle manager giving the employee grief).

Senority based promotions, (generally speaking)

Senority based transfers, (again generally speaking)

Defined training rules

Enhanced work safety rules, (protections when throwing the safety card)

Defined work hours / schedules, based on senority

Less opprotunities for suck ups to rise to the top or otherwise hold BS power

Nepotisim somewhat mitigated

What not to expect:

protection for slackers, (and you know again generally speaking)

Kumbaya brotherhood, Unions strength come from the membership, at my current site, (military), most guy's could care less about the union, except for pay and benifits.

Laize faire management; Employees are expected to follow and are held to the CBA.

Im tired of thinking and tired of typing good luck, stay safe----chow
